OK - I am going through the carrier on my rear end. I bought the bearing kit to rebuild. I broke down the carrier, and found that the pinion snout has some wear on it. I have used a snout like this on a transmission before, but not sure if this is ok for a third member. The original pilot bearing looks ok - no complimentary wear. Trying to save money, but not wanting to create problems down the road. Any input would be great!

The pattern exposed on the ring to pinion gear "wear pattern" are one of the most critical deciders. The other is whether if the pinion support bearing will still press and lock on the pinion gear bearing surface. If the pinion bearing does not have firm press fit, then the pinion gear is trash along with the ring gear. I just experienced this on my 3.7 gears. At $200 bucks for a ring and pinion it may be wise to replace. I did.

I have sent you a few recent pm's. Are you not getting them?

Rob
