...Many "so called" educated people believe they have earned the right to interpret the most basic and fundamental truths for the rest of us, Yet they lack the aperture (that is present in most children) to see the whole picture...

Tim makes a really valid point. I knew a guy at Sacramento State, back in the late 1970's that later became a semi-famous political pundit on TV. I'd go so far to define him as a pseudo-intellectual (and I never agreed with his views).

The media hauls out these folks to give us their perspective, when it's usually muddled. Often, I find it so frustrating to watch any TV cable news (although I like Chris Matthews).

It's a matter of perspective, although that perspective is always tainted with a slant, or bias to benefit those who spout it. That does nothing for the viewer. What happened to how we would watch the news with Huntley-Brinkley? I just want the facts, not constant opinion.

I've asked myself many times, how did the world survive so many years without cell phones, computers, video games and big screen tv's. Sure they have improved life in many ways but, they have also hurt us as a society.
That's just my view. As for the way news folks report things today, I gave up on the news types after my first trip to Viet-Nam. I watch the news to get my local weather report. Some may call me closed minded but, I kinda like to see things for myself then form an opinion. Common sense and human nature can teach you a lot.

Don, my personal, sincere, THANK YOU for your service in Viet Nam.

It's never too late to thank a Viet Nam vet. (BTW--there is a (Viet Nam era) Marine that I know in Sacramento building a Little Red replica).

" New pledge of Allegiance"

I recieved this the other day and wanted to pass along. Written by a kid in a Arizonna school:

Now I sit me down in shool
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If scripture now the class recites,
it violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense: it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the good book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior queen,
and the 'unwed daddy,' our senior king.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong'
We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
no word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
when chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen
