Questions on 66 convertible

I was checking out this local 66 convertible on eBay.

I had a few questions.

1. Does it make sense in 66 that a San Jose Car was sold to DSO 12 (Buffalo)? I assume that's Buffalo, NY right?

2. I can see the front seats were replaced. The seller didn't seem to know when they were changed - I'm not even sure he knew they were .

3. The rivets look weird to me on the data plate ... does it look like it was replaced?

Thanks in advance - here is the link:

I have a 66 convertible and it looks almost like a twin to this one.

A couple of things: Seats are recovered. Carpet is replaced. Dashpad is new. Woodgrain is for deluxe interior, but the door panels are not deluxe - decoder says standard interior, so they are add ons. Also, deluxe interior would have wooden steering wheel, which would have been really nice. The dual exhaust of course is not original. The engine dress kit is not original. Metuchen and Dearborn factory cars have buck tags (if someone left them there). This one does not appear to have one, so we can probably say it is a San Jose car (i have no clue why it went to Buffalo - a history digging challenge). Passenger mirror was an option, as was driver remote control mirror. The wheels are options. It all looks good. I can look up more when I get home.

This is a nice looking car! Of course, someone should inspect it. But if you are looking for a nice driver, this one looks nice. IMHO.

Casey

Appears to be a new tag, so it is possible he gave Marti the wrong DSO. The only thing Marti will make sure doesn't change on a tag is the vin, anything else is what they buyer puts on the form Also two different rivets. Bottom line, what does the seller want for it.

Thanks for checking it out!
Lot's of good stuff you pointed out.

A lot looked too new to me in the pick to be original.
Makes me concerned about the "certified mechanic".

The car is less than an hour from me so I could see it in person easily.

He apparently wants more than $15,850 since that was the highest bid with the reserve not met.

I exchanged a few emails with him but didn't seem very anxious in my mind and didn't seem to know much about the car at all.

Thanks again ... wasn't that serious but it caught my eye as a replacement for my 96 vert.

Hi Rich,

The vin on the door data plate should match the vin on the left front splash
panel, under the hood.

The data plate and or door may have ben replaced.

Good luck,

Dave
