All 4-speed 390 mustangs came with a tach, automatics did not. I believe this subject has been discused on this web site before. Look in gallery and see.

This car did not sell because the reserve was not met.

...Well, it is a beautiful car and I hope it fetches a good price. I would certainly bid if I could keep it out of the weather.

It is a beautiful car! I've been trying to get my father-in-law to bid on it.

Anyone know a ballpark figure on what he wants for this car?

Don't have a clue but, saying it's a 390 "S" code and only 104 out of 215 were automatics plus the car is in very good condition I'd venture to guess at least $30,000 plus. I know what I'd be asking for mine if it were for sale. I know this doesn't help much but, it gives you a ballpark figure.

What I find interesting about this car is it is advertised as "numbers matching", from that I would assume that the owner was able to find a "VIN" stamped in the engine block. I have two San Jose produced 390 GT's and have not yet been able to find a VIN on either one of them. Both blocks have there appropriate casting #'s but, no VIN's. I did find the VIN stamped on my 4 speed this past summer when we rebuilt it.

Anyone else out there with a 390 "X" or "S" code been able to locate a VIN on their block? I know San Jose was pretty iffy on this with the FE motor's.

S code or not...

If its an S code, it should have a tach, if its got a tach, why the after model one on the steering colum..

Whys the price stopped at 19 K and change...

I think the site police should put this car under there microscopes and tell us once and for all...

All that being said, car looks really nice, but I'd rather have the 4 sp..

DR

Whats yer opinion of this car Jason, if its for real shouldn't it be in your stable..

...I see no reason to imply this car may not be real. As far as a "tach" goes - my S-code (automatic) doesn't have one either... and it IS real.

I value your opinion and desire to have a 4-speed, but I sure wouldn't involve the "site police" by a long shot.

Bluestang seems forthcoming re: his listing and gallery - contact him.

I still maintain it's a beautiful car!

If you have any Questions, you can ask me. You seem to have a problem with the tach . Yes, it is not pretty. It had already had holes in the steering column from the previous owner, so I used them. It looks tachy!! Get it.
Yes I found a vin number on my block. I had always heard 68and newer had vin numders, and 67 older did not. I think my car is in the first registry. The last owner said that someone, who was making a registry, came to look at it in the 80's. What were your casting numbers? Do any of you have 390 GT automatic with a factory tach?
Thank you,
Kimball

I think it's a nice car and wish I had room in my garage for it.

I could be wrong, but I think vin stamping started in '67. I know that '68 should definatly be vin stamped. If you find a block that is not vin stamped, it may be a service replacement block.

My GT 390 auto did not have a tach when I bought it (it does have the small tach where the clock goes now).
When this car was for sale months ago I offered the owner I think 30k (Bluestang correct me if I am wrong) and was told it took about 5k more at that time to buy it.

Personally I think at 35k if that's what it takes to buy the car it is a good deal.
