Nice day after a few days of cooler temps and rain. Took the Special out for a nice cruise. Took a right on local Hwy and dropped the hammer a tad and then WHITE SMOKE! When I let off it appeared to go away then gave it gas and more smoke. Pulled immediately over to side and pop the hood. Coolant hose from intake had come off, wasn't even tight? Coolant all over inside of engine bay.

Not even 10 seconds has passed and then a truck pulls over with 3 teenagers. They have seen the car and even know where I live! They have tools, I didn't bring mine today, go figure. Put it back on, drive home ...easy. Wash off car, motor and install added coolant, good as new. But, it could have been messy .

Yes, It does happen and at least you pulled over. My daughter learned her lesson recently when she overheated her Monte Carlo. I kept after her to check her fluids and on Thanksgiving, she was coming home from Sacramento and pegged the temp gauge. She pulled over in Weimar, about five miles from her turnoff and let it cool down a bit, then drove some more. Unfortunately, she drove until the engine quit. Cracked both heads. She decided to pay for the repairs herself instead of counting on mom and dad. Frustrated at her but proud of her in the way she handled it. She just got her car back yesterday. Bet she doesn't do that again. Mike

this is why I always keep a cheapie tool kit in the trunk of the Mustangs. One of those $25 42 piece made in Taiwan kind of things. :)

Sears has the Craftsman small tool kits on sale for $50-$60 on a regular basis. I have one for each car (that runs) that I keep under the spare tire. Think Mastercard. Don't leave home without it.
