I feel a vibration when I take the car out and bring it on the interstate. The faster I go the more it vibrates. I had the transmission replaced with a AOD, but I felt it prior to the tranny swap. I wonder if the motor mounts can cause a vibration? What else can I check?

I just found this and want to know if this bolt is supposed to be tight or loose? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412189794.058106.jpg
It's the bolt for the motor mount. Both sides were loose. One side was looser than the other.

I always had a sneaky feeling the vibration was coming from the motor mounts.

Harmonic balancer
(but usually if there's a problem with the balancer it's worse at idle)

Yes replacing motor mounts. Along with a lot of other parts.

My gut says that if the motor mounts were tight to the engine block, this is not your problem. The weight of the engine would negate any vibration. But the mounts and tight bolts need to be addressed of course.

You say you just put an AOD in the car. Look at everything around the AOD for a "sound short". Metal to metal contact. The AOD is a bit larger and the cross member was replaced. I found an aftermarket conversion cross member that was designed in such a way that it touched the tail shaft housing on the automatic. Caused a similar the faster you went the more you felt vibration.

The other thing is the u joints and drive shaft as mentioned. A vibration that gets worse as the drive shaft spins faster is a sign of driveshaft balance problems. Unbalance tires seem to cause a thumping so to speak and not a severe vibration.

Try the mounts but come on back if you need "mo hep".

It's also possible to install the flex plate backwards and that can create a heck of a vibration, plus it usually tears up the starter after a while.

I am with Rob I do not think it is the motor mounts. As others have suggested I believe that it some thing rotating that is out of balance

I brought the engine to the rebuilder yesterday. Once I install it and get it back on the road I'll update this thread, actually the vibration was there before the AOD. So I'm going to change the U Joint's and get the drive shaft balanced. I'm changing the motor mounts too. Also all of the rotating assembly in the motor will be changed as well. I'll then go from there. Thanks for the tips.

If it is front wheel balance, you should feel it up through the steering wheel. Because of the wheels I have, the sticky weights lost their sticky. back to the tire shop for weights.
