Your questions/comments for book interviews

In keeping with the spirit of this website's participation--with my book on the GT/CS (& '68 HCS) -- I am about to interview a few folks that have been involved with the production and marketing of the GT/CS.

I would like any input you may have, with questions (or comments) that I could ask these people.

I will be talking to the following people:

- The Shelby American Automobile Club (Re: recognition and promotion within SAAC, judging, registry, etc.)

- A California Ford Dealer, that was selling the GT/CS in Los Angeles, back in 1968.

- A worker at A.O. Smith, that worked on some of the fiberglass (plastic) pieces, such as the side scoops.

- A worker that help build the Green Hornet.

- A few San Jose (Milpitas) Ford plant workers, there in 1967-68.

- A key person that was there when they tried to put the rear spoiler decklid and end caps on the '68 Trans Am Mustang coupes (claiming the stock use on the GT/CS for the T-A rules folks).

- A Ford contact with the 2007 and 2008 GT/CS.

Anything you can think of would be appreciated,

thank you!

I have one question you may already have the answer to.
We all know they recalled the Marchal foglights and installed Lucas foglights. Cars that were previously sold, notices were sent to the owners (would like to see a copy of the notice) stating they needed to change, for free no less!!
My car was built on March 8 but wasn't sold until July 17. No indication that Lucas lights were ever installed on my car.
The question:
How insistant was FoMoCo regarding this recall. How easy was it for the dealer at that time to ignore the recall prior to selling the car?

Excellent Question!!!

I'll have to cross-reference the Marti reports I have with those who still have Marchals.

Since a lot of these cars didn't move off the lot all that fast, I don't think that dealers were real motivated to do the fog light work.

I do have copies of the recalls to GT/CS owners--which were close to the '68 Shelby letters. All that Ford did (to my knowledge) was send another follow up letter to owners in 1970. I do not know of any owners wit hMarchals that were "forced: to remove their lights. I do know that GT/CS cars sold at Canadian Ford dealerships had the Marchal lights wrapped in newspaper, placed in the trunk.

as a side note--I'll be talking to the brass at SAAC. It looks like we're getting closer involvment and recognition with the Shelby-Cobra folks. Stay Tuned!
