    1968 Carburetor Questions

First +1 to Dave on that chrome Thermo housing. They make great paper weights!! We can do the vacuum advance later. In this day and age, a manual choke is old thinking. I should have noticed. Might need a bigger monitor and better glasses also! It a simple as a universal choke cable that...

    1968 Carburetor Questions

The Edelbrock carb has an electric choke vice the “heat tube divorce choke” on your stock carb. Your stock carb used the heat tube shown with a small amount of vacuum to draw the heat off the exhaust manifold to open the choke. Your new carb uses an electric choke. A “keyed” 12 volt wire that...

    1968 January 1968 390 Date Code 390 Block Questions

Doubt that any "old" Mustang mechanics or machine shops will have any info on date codes and such to the year of a car. It was not a big deal back then. The Vintage Mustang Forum might be a better place to ask your questions. At the same time anything could have happened, but you seem to be...

Give us the information Neil requested and we can help you. My experience in 1968 cars built in San Jose is they have VIN'S stamped in them. I have pictures of a 1968 San Jose built 6 shooter with the vin in both the 3 speed manual tranny and the block. Cars in other plants I cannot speak to...

A 4 speed would be a nice upgrade! A total bolt in. Uses the same clutch and same drive line. All you need is the 4 speed and linkage. Rob

    1968 Small coolant recovery tank

Rob the old radiator rebuilder from the early 70's agrees with Arlie. Never fill your radiator all the way to the top. Keep the fluid at least 1 inch below the filler neck. If the system is good and no over heating occurs it should not dump water. Common mistake by some owners who are used...

1968 Not holding idle.. help identify this bolt?

In this picture you can see the "passenger side" large port for a PCV valve. This port is common to the newer Holley carbs which one is on this car. More than likely this hose goes to PCV valve and the one in the spacer can be plugged. No it will not hurt the car to have it plugged. Rob

1968 Not holding idle.. help identify this bolt?

Wow! What some fun! You are correct that it is an oil plug. So leaking out of the carb could just be old gaskets. You do not have the correct PCV Spacer under your carb. The "plugged" vacuum port is for a PCV valve and will be ok if everything is correct and functioning properly. My guess...
