    289 Pistons

The Tri Y's have a number of clerance issues (per Tony Branda) as they were developed for the earlier body style. Shelby had K code hi flow exhaust maniforlds that could work. But, I have decided to go ahead with headers. I checked with the MCA head judge for 67/8 and for my class, I will not...

    289 Pistons

Robert - Are these shortys or mid-length? What is the part number? Are they pretty much bolt up to the existing exhaust? Where did you buy them from? For others - any other ideas? I am going to use brushed aluminum COBRA valve covers (yes, I know they are shelby 65/66 vintage:smile: ) and...

    289 Pistons

It is a long block. I will reuse my edlebrock performer intake and 4V I already have, and the Petronix ignition. I havent thought about the headers yet. I am open to ideas, except not chrome or shiny. Let me know. Casey

    289 Pistons

thanks for the input on the 289. i decided and ordered a handbuilt 347 stroker today. i will bag the 289 and store it. i plan for the 347 to look stock for MCA shows. no bling. I MAY add shelby bolt on's (valve covers and oval cleaner), since they are period correct, and they look really...

    289 Pistons

I am adding power/thump/torque to a show car that looks factory. I was considering only heads, cam and headers for power. I had these pictures from back when I replaced the factory heads which went bad and I changed them with refurb factory heads. I am not even sure the block is original...

    289 Pistons

Still looking for help on the pistons - does anyone recognize what type the are (stock or other?). Casey

    289 Pistons

Jeff - There is no VIN stamp number at the back of the block, as others have found. Did you find a VIN number? If not, how did you figure out it was a vintage 302. I still wonder what kind of pistons these are (the engine is assembled at the moment, so all I have are the old pics). Casey

    289 Pistons

Are these stock 289 pistons? If not what does a stock piston head look like - and if not, what kind of pistons are these? Casey

    Winter storage suggestions

For the record I sold the 55 chevy about 6 months after I bought my first (later in life) Mustang. Obviously the better car won! Casey

What Is The Correct Wheel? Covers - Styled Steel?

I believe it is in Paul's book - the advertising was done before the scripts could be finished. The scripts were last minute add-on at the un-veiling. He shows the invoices for the scripts and the timing was close to the un-veiling at the dealers meeting. If you look close at the pictures of...

    Winter storage suggestions

mice traps around the cars for me. found nest in my 55 chevy one year. the standard "cheese" snap traps work fine with peanut butter on them. I caught six that year. I catch one every so often now, but havent had problems with them in the cars anymore. i have never thought of circulating...

What Is The Correct Wheel? Covers - Styled Steel?

The GT/CS had no special wheel covers. They were the same as any 68 Mustang. If your marti does not list a wheel cover on the options list (such as deluxe, rallye, etc). Then it came with the standard wheel every 68 mustang came with. Hope this helps. Casey

Marti Report vs. Ford 999 history...FYI

$17 Marti Report insurance - You can't get much cheaper - and it is the real-deal straight from the FORD database and exclusively licensed to him. It even comes with a cool "Ford Licensed" hologram sticker. Kevin Marti's report is the only way to know for sure unless you bought it new...

    Unique Taillight Setup

Call me crazy - but I like it. It was the 70's, and this is a 70's drag car. My buddy's vans looked more wild than this. I do wonder if the lights were used for some purpose - obviously no need for turn signals. I sorta like the car - drag cars seem to be the thing to collect now. Casey

    Best "Bone Head" Story

My Dad was like that - we "gofers" took it hard back then. I will add one more story - it is short and simple and basically a warning. Never sit down to rest on a nice soft rag that you did not realized had been soaked in gasoline. :torch: Casey

If we can coordinate a few (or one) GT/CS 40th anniversary shows (west coast, east coast - any), I would like to schedule my vacation around as many of them as possible. Casey

    Best "Bone Head" Story

First car was a 72 dodge charger. mopar engines have distributor on the back, not the front (like a ford). so, to set the points (i had single points), you had to check the gap by laying over the engine with your head between the distributor and the bottom of the hood and (when a poor kid)...

    '68 GT/CS vs. '07/'08 GT/CS

The guys at SAAC (Shelby Club) have all the same discussions and opinions. Yet, the registrar has to decide what is, or is not a Shelby. And the registrar has to decide what to invite to the SAAC shows. A GT/CS is a GT/CS no matter what year it is - as long as it's authenticity can be...
