I don't use 2nd gear in my CJ. It has a close ratio gearbox so it is pretty much worthless. I thought only 4 speeds and c-6's were available for BB cars.

$600 is waaay high for a chrome lid. Why not get yours chromed for maybe $100-$125? Are the 289 lids the same size as the 390's? the one you showed a link to is not correct. look at mine here to see what is correct for a 68 390.

he told me he found all correct pieces for the motor (block included). I assume he is trying to show it is original and not repro stuff. I agree he should have painted the air cleaner.

that was the exact car I almost bought instead of my red fastback CJ. It was priced at $59k. This was before he put 5-10k of work into the motor. That car was owned by someone in College Station (90 miles from Houston). The car has some rought edges and will be a hard sell for anything over 65k.

I did not have to dremel anything, it bolted right up. only one wire is needed and is part of the instrument panel wiring. plug and play. maybe repaint the needles on the speedo/instruments while the dash is out?
