1968 Thoughts on a recently introduced EFI system

If only the Aussie dollar would go back up.. at 0.72 the relative cost of the old systems at $1000 at the 1/1 it was at a while back was a better buy then the "cheaper" $800 one now... converts to $1100! :undecided Costs more for less here now....

For Sale 1968 GT/CS on CL

"All original"... MSD distributor, Oval air cleaner, modified exhaust, wrong steering wheel,... etc, etc... Ya gotta wonder what that statement means to some folks... definitely new paint, so how much metal repaired? Not uncommon, and a nice looking car... but the terminology many...

1968 Thoughts on a recently introduced EFI system

Nice to see prices for what appears to be a good product, based on web reviews, going down ... not up, as is usual! MC & HNY to all .....

    Coil Spring Tools

Have tried the "lower the suspension" trick but in some cases the spring is still quite loaded and wresting it in and out (or prying on it with a crowbar, seems a bit brute force for me) was a PITA. Depends of the specific spring you are using though, as some of mine have dropped right in and...

1968 Power Brake Booster Rebuild Recommendations

The check valves are easy to break in removing, they become quite brittle in the heat of the engine compartment over time. Easy to source a replacement, I think '68 Midlands used the two nipple style with the small port capped. Run about $20 with the gasket and cap.

1968 Power Brake Booster Rebuild Recommendations

In looking into this when doing a couple of my '68s some time ago I found most seemed to think the Midland style is correct for a '68. I recall seeing something once-upon-a-time that the mounting was slightly different between the two (stud/bolt locations), not sure if that is correct or not...

    1968 Tail light sockets

The ones I used had a inner press in clip. Socket from the rear, press in clip on the inside. A deep socket and firm support on the backside to press the clip in to hold the socket. Solder may be an option if you don't have the press in rings. Or maybe you could expand the socket a bit...

    1968 sequentail taillight wiring

Do they use the OEM style dynamite sticks or ? Did OEM style in my 68 EXP and the Scott Fuller sticks showed the correct connection's, the OEM use a scotch-loc clip and tie the wires together. Trick is ensuring you get the two black wires identified correctly... Info here, maybe it helps with...

    1968 Seat Cover Change

Some tips I wrote down a while ago.... HTH 1. If they are in good shape, take them apart carefully, take notes, and take pictures. Keep the old listing wires, even if rusted for reuse or reference for making new ones. Mark where the originals used hog rings, misplaced ones can wrinkle the final...

1968 Thoughts on a recently introduced EFI system

    1968 Door data plate

Looks great Neil! IMO an "aged" tag on new paint seems odd IMO. A ratty/faded tag and new paint sticks out even more...

1968 Who seels the best rear leaf springs?

Yeah, hard to go past the OEM who is still making them to factory specs! +1 on Eaton from NPD.

    1968 Driver side door originality

A wire wheel will generally remove most build-up from the door and leave the grain. I've found the date stamps on the center "webs" on the flat areas in front of the main opening, many very faint... And '67 and '68 doors differ a little bit.

1968 The good, the bad and the clone.

"8F"... dead giveaway ... IMO no sense tracking clones on the site. Is a car advertised as a GT/CS a "clone"? Or does it need to have "all" the right parts, or only "some"... no clear definition of a clone these days... Nice looking car! Someone did it pretty well, unlike some.... (but...

    1968 GT/CS Misconceptions

Popular car, a lot of anecdotal "facts" get generated.... a couple favourites of mine, not GT/CS specific are "GT Hood" (louvered) or "GT Dash" (meaning a tach to many...)....

    1968 Brake bleeding issues

I've used the NPD sets on 4 cars, never a problem... minor tweaks to align a few, but all fit up and well and installed within a few minutes... bleeding excluded.

Should I make it into a clone?

If you go EXP and have any questions feel free to ask... http://californiaspecial.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12214 Be prepared for a lot of bodywork/prep on the repro fiberglass to get it to look half-decent.

1968 Thoughts on a recently introduced EFI system

Not surprising that a new and cheaper alternative generates interest. Backorders are not uncommon in this hobby! Most of the initial opinions are positive. As you note the support/warranty issues will develop over time to see how they handle these aspects of growing a business...

1968 Thoughts on a recently introduced EFI system

Some info here, a few folks noting difficulty with delivery and backordering of parts, others noting no issues... time will tell.... http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/vintage-mustang-forum/887794-fi-tech-efi.html

    She's finally home....

Thanks for the compliments. A long time planning, prepping and making.. and a ton of $ I'll never recover to do it the way I wanted... but a bucket list item I can tick off!
