1968 What is one of the earliest California Special VIN numbers

++++++1 The CS lid was a produced Shelby part. I think the lid in question is a reproduction.

    1968 Trunk Correctness

Shelby's had a rubber top bumper like a hood bumper mounted on the trunk rear edge and had no weather strip on trunk lid end. The weather strip on our trunk lid on the unrestored HCS is black rather than grey seen on a lot of the GTCS and HCSs.

    1968 Trunk Correctness

No RH filler board, not needed because of the spare. NPD tail light housing screw protectors 13434-3K5 These are grey the one for the reflector on SJ cars is often black so you might dye one black. BTW the weather strip tape on my unrestored 68 HCS is black. You are welcome!

    1968 Trunk Correctness

Your car most likely had a plaid mat. It need to be a burtex mat. The 67 will fit just fine. There are no trunk lid bumpers on the lid or on the trunk edge like a Shelby. Ford was cheep and just used the tape at the quarter extensions to stop chipping. I can not tell you the length of the J bolt...

    1968 Shelby 10 Spoke Wheels

Yes that is correct and the reason the original Shelby ten spokes would not work with out a spacer.

    1968 Shelby 10 Spoke Wheels

Only the original 67 Shelby ten spoke wheels had clearance problems with clearance the calipers. That is why 68 Shelby's were sold with hubcaps. The aftermarket ten spoke wheels are made with the correct back set to clear the calipers. Marty

    . Triple "B's" Garage

For some reason I am partial to white strips on royal maroon

    . Triple "B's" Garage

Shock tower caps should be black, wrong radiator hose clamps, wrong distributor vacuum advance, engine tag in wrong location, No front decal on air cleaner, no caution fan decal on shroud. I'll stop there. Here is a picture of Mike Jewels S code. I have judged it several times and it is just...

    . Triple "B's" Garage

It is a nice looking engine bay but I would not copy it for there are many details that are incorrect.

1968 Take a look at my Lucas Fog Light situation

Here are some pictures of some Lucas fog light the one with England on the glass is a correct assembly line light the other with foreign glass and large wire grommet is a latter replacement. I do not know what your goals for your car but if it is a driver the replacement would be far cheaper...

    6-Cylinder '68 Mustang

If you need a over night the Rupp Inn is about 5 hours from Springfield MO.

    1968 Front Fenders

That is exactly what I was trying to say. Marty

    1968 Front Fenders

I think service replacement had no emblem holes as Ford did not know is it would be used for a standard Mustang, GT Mustang, HCS, GT/CS or a Shelby. All of which used the same fender with different holes. I'll check our 52K mile unrestored HCS fender some time. Marty

    6-Cylinder '68 Mustang

We restored a 67 200 I6 with AC. I would fill the trunk put my two boys in the back seat turn on the AC and drive it 75. Then get 20+ MPG. The strait six has a lot of torque and if you use the 3.25 gears you will be pleased with the performance. It will never be a 289 though.
