You can identify J-code heads that way. I think the block will have "302" cast in the lifter galley.

Personally, I think you can get away with 17s, but IMHO anything larger looks like a little kid playing with his Hot Wheels. Not sure an 8" wide wheel will fit, though. It may depend on the offset. Anyone running 8 inchers up front?
