Artie on Bring a Trailer

Location: Somewhere, UT
Price: Auction

Artie is for sale again.

This 1968 Mustang GT/CS is finished in Sunlit Gold over a Nugget Gold interior, and it is one of 4,118 examples ordered with the California Special equipment package for the model year. Power comes from a 289ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, and additional equipment includes a 2.79:1 rear axle, 14″ GT steel wheels, front disc brakes, power steering, a fiberglass rear spoiler, black side stripes, driving lamps, faux side scoops, front bucket seats, a center console, air conditioning, a tilt-away steering wheel, and a vintage-look radio. The car was initially delivered to Cambell Ford of Compton, California, and is said to have been featured in the 1981 film Goin’ All the Way. A refurbishment was completed in 2008, and the car was acquired by the selling dealer in January 2022. This California Special coupe is offered in Utah with a Deluxe Marti Report, a calendar featuring the car, a Goin’ All the Way movie poster, and a clean Louisiana title.

The car was repainted in its factory shade of Sunlit Gold with black GT/CS side stripes as part of a reported rotisserie refurbishment completed in the 2008. Features include a fiberglass rear spoiler, faux side scoops, driving lamps, hood vents, exposed hood locks, Thunderbird-sourced taillights, reverse lamps, a dual exit exhaust, and chrome trim on the bumpers, rocker panels, window surrounds, and driver-side mirror. A bulb in the left taillight was replaced in preparation for the sale, and the seller states the body was paint-corrected during their ownership.

Chrome 14″ GT steel wheels wear deluxe covers and are wrapped in white-line tires. The car is equipped with power steering and power-assisted front disc brakes with rear drums. The brakes were reportedly serviced under current ownership.

The cabin features front bucket seating and a rear bench upholstered in Nugget Gold vinyl with a matching lower dashboard, door panels, and black carpeting. Interior amenities include manually-operated windows, air condoning, a full-length center console, a glovebox, vent windows, lap belts for all occupants, and a vintage-look radio. The interior was reportedly retrimmed under current ownership.

The two-spoke tilt-away steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and fronts a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, amperage, coolant temperate, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 42k miles, approximately 50 of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

From what I see in the pictures looks like they detailed it very nicely. I also see that they replaced the tires and shocks. Wonder why they replaced the carpet? Was nugget gold but now black. Oh and the black wedge in the driver side door is gone now.

Strong money for that well optioned C code. Wonder where the car market is headed with the stock market downturn and high inflation.

I think with inflation and the economy maybe sinking, AVERAGE classic cars are going to take a big downturn, as they're more of a luxury item. People will be worried about putting gas in their daily drivers. I believe the more rare/desirable models won't fall as far, as some people have money, no matter what. Depending on how long it lasts, cars from the '60's and '70's may stay permanently depressed, as classic Japanese cars become the next collectible for the younger generation. I believe we're the next iteration of the Model A / 55 Chevy progression.
