Overview of 1968 Ford Mustang GT/CS California Special For Sale by Owner

The California Special is one of the most desirable limited-production variants of the first-generation Mustang, blending Shelby-inspired styling cues with the timeless appeal of Ford’s pony car formula. Introduced in 1968 and sold primarily through California dealerships, the GT/CS package gave buyers a more exclusive appearance package that helped distinguish these cars from standard Mustangs. This particular 1968 Ford Mustang GT/CS California Special Coupe shows just 39,556 miles and is finished in striking Acapulco Blue Metallic. Equipped with its 289ci V8, automatic transmission, and iconic California Special styling elements, this Mustang represents a unique opportunity to own a piece of Ford history that continues to be highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Exterior and Interior

The exterior of this 1968 Ford Mustang GT/CS California Special Coupe is finished in Acapulco Blue Metallic, a period-correct color that perfectly complements the car’s sporty lines. As a California Special, it features distinctive GT/CS side stripes, quarter panel side scoops, and Lucas-style fog lamps that set it apart from ordinary Mustangs of the era. Chrome 5-spoke styled wheels provide a classic muscle car stance, while the long hood, short deck proportions, and tasteful brightwork showcase why the first-generation Mustang remains one of the most recognizable American automobiles ever produced. The interior of this 1968 Ford Mustang GT/CS California Special Coupe has been reupholstered and presents in an attractive blue color scheme that complements the exterior finish. Occupants are greeted by a wood-rim steering wheel and woodgrain interior trim that add a touch of sophistication to the cabin. The clean dashboard layout, comfortable seating, and classic Mustang instrumentation provide an authentic driving experience while maintaining the charm and character that have made these vintage Fords enduring favorites among collectors.

Engine

Power comes from a 289ci V8 fitted with a 4-barrel carburetor, delivering the unmistakable sound and character of Ford’s legendary small-block engine family. The V8 is paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels, creating an easy-going yet engaging driving experience well suited to cruising and weekend enjoyment. Renowned for its durability, broad aftermarket support, and straightforward maintenance, the 289 remains one of Ford’s most celebrated powerplants. Combined with the lightweight first-generation Mustang platform, it offers the kind of classic American V8 performance that continues to captivate enthusiasts more than five decades after it first hit the road.

Power drum brakes? Looks nice with some of the modifications. I think I would have opted for windshield wipers though.
