Well I guess the joke is on me. I always just assumed the Cardinal Special came from St. Louis! Nice looking car though.

Wow never heard of this one. Isn't it great Ford has these strange but wonderful versions? Not like the boring Camaro

(I am a closet 1968 Camaro admirer, shhh. Just ask Bart. Where was I mostly at SEMA? Ford or Chevy?)

The Camaro did not have to do special editions to drive up sales, they sold on their own.

Sorry, could not resist. I have owned 3 first gen Camaros. Loved my 1969 Z/28. But I do miss my HCS. Looks like Mustang has outproduced Camaro over the years, though.

Lifted from the internet:
Since Mustang & Camaro sales have been brought up alot here lately, here is a historical list of yearly Mustang vs Camaro sales. Whenever needed, use it as a reference, or just cut & paste.

Notes:
1. Cobra production from 1965-1969 is not included (it was counted as a separate line by Ford).
2. Numbers preceded by an asterik (*) designates a redesigned .
3. I didn't include Firebird or Capri figures though they are similar cars. With Ford having only 4000 dealers to Chevrolet's 5000, I don't need to!!

Year: Mustang/Camaro

Wow!! I've been trying to track down one of those for a long, long time. Being a VA native, I'd love to have two '68 CS Mustangs in the garage (a Cardinal Special to sit alongside the GT/CS). Unfortunately, timing is just horrible with a newborn and saving for a bigger garage...I mean house.

I'll keep track of this one and see who buys it...maybe they'll sell if a few years...maybe.

I found an add that said they came with six cylinders, but this one has a v8. Also I googled Cardinal Special and was amazed at all the different types of special Mustangs from the day. But it said the most recognized was the California Special.

'MUSTANG SPECIAL EDITIONS' by Brad Bowling & Jerry Heasley reference the Cardinal Edition. Advertised with 6 cyl engine, but the authors say that "More than one CE has been uncovered with V-8 power." They go on to say that the only way to verify authenticity is thru original documentation (apparently these were dealer prepared specialties- in CandyAppleRed), and that all CE's will show a DSO of 25 (Richmond, VA)
