Advice needed

Been having a slight issue with my GT/CS...I think I may be getting an intermittent misfire (?)

First, when I start up the engine and its cold it *seems* to be running a bit rough (its always hard to tell with a cold V8 engine).

Second, (and this is where I think I'm getting a misfire) when I first start driving the car (engine still cold) and accelerate I almost always get a hesitation and single "tick" sound coming from the engine as if spark is finding a different path to ground. It only happens once (?!?)

Third, while the engine is still cold it sometimes stalls out when I come to an abupt stop.

Finally, when the engine is warm everything *seems* to be running fine although the throttle response is a bit slow

And, as an aside. I started having the problem. Replaced all my spark plug wires (since they were getting a bit old/worn anyway). Still have the problem.

So, has anyone else had problems w/similar symptoms? What turned out to be the problem? Any on-line websites to recommend to help with a diagnosis of the problem? Any recommended books along the same lines (eg diagnosing engine problems)? Finally, what suggestions are there for improving the throttle response?

Any advise/pointers is much appreciated.

Just want to be informed a bit before I take it into the mechanic.

Thanks

James

What mods have been done to the motor if any?

Don
Original engine w/rebuild. No mods except addition of a Pertronix Distributor, Holley carb, shorty headers. Otherwise, stock...

Check your distributor cap and rotor. Since you've already changed your plug wires, almost sounds like you may have a hair line fracture/crack in your cap or your rotor may be cracked at the base. Best thing is to replace both.

Hi everybody:
Speaking of electronic ignition convertions, what would you recomend, the pertronix ignitor I or the ignitor II, I like to go fast sometimes and I have a pretty stock engine with headers, and which type of coil would you use. But mostly the car go slow, traffic and the streets are not very nice in some places and I take care a lot of my car. The question is would the pertronix ignitor II won't be a little higher for my needS?

They basically do the same thing except the Pertronix II has some kind of automatic adjustment sensor. It costs more too. My car has the Flamethrower coil and it works great.

P51, I was having trouble with my car and found that the vacuum advance was bad. I got that replaced and it runs great now.

I just don't want to buy more that what I need. The money it not a problem so far I just save money for a longer time  , I bought a Mallory system and I sold it, I preferred the original looking. That's why I dont want to buy "More" than what I do need, the diff between the pertronix I and II is 35 dollars, It's not much so I want the perfect fit let's say.

Gee, thanks James. My husband John deserves some of the credit. He`s the poor sucker that has been the one to do all the work on my car. After replacing almost everything in the distributor (including cap), replacing the spark plugs, adjusting the idle and just being dumbfounded, he finally figured out the vacuum advance problem. It was just my idea to mention it to you. :)
