Sara I wonder if $25,000 might be a little low. I don't know where you'd find a Highland green GT/CS for that amount.

The number was floated out there somewhere on another thread. Granted, it is an awesome, hard to find color but it doesn't have the original 302 or 3 speed and all it came with is a radio and it doesn't have that anymore either. Maybe I'm too conservative, but I'll up it if you all think I should. I definately want to be fully covered if something should happen

I've never seen your car in person so I can't say for sure. Right now $25,000 might be reasonable but as overall GT/CS values rise and as you get farther (further?) along in your restoration it might be prudent to review that number on a yearly basis.

We all tend to downplay the value of our cars until someone asks us what we would sell them for, then the value suddenly skyrockets. I think Andy will will agree with me on that.

I change the coverage amount on my cars every 6 months. I could tell you one of my cars that I would not mind disappearing (it is my oldest model year one). I have so much money in that car it is pathetic and I really don't like it like I like my 390 CS and CJ.

Here's my insurance story. When we got the car I added it to my 'regular' insurance at USAA where our family car is insured. I had 'full' coverage, the same I have on our other car. It was $525 a year. It was less than our MDX and we got a second car discount so I thought it was a good thing. I had full coverage even though I told them it would be driven less than 1000 miles a year. Fast forward a year or so. The wonderful people on this site opened my eyes to classic car insurance. I first called USAA to see if they had something similar, since they are a great company. Turns out they contract with American Collectors, so I switched over. I have the value at $25,000 and full coverage with no deductables for just $161.40 a year. All I had to send was one picture and of course a full description of the car. I was rather angry with USAA for not offering this to me in the first place. Had I wrecked it during the time of 'regular' insurance, I would have only gotten blue book for a 'regular' 68 Mustang. I got a quote from Hagarty and one other one but American Collectors was the lowest for me.

Those USAA folks--a bunch of weenies. Never told me that I could insure through American Collectors. I think I'll just finalize through Haggerty and cancel my USAA insurance...Robb

Robb;
I think they call that making money. They probably have the motto if they don't ask, we don't tell.

Everyone around me has Hagerty. A buddy of mine had his '56 chev front fender crushed by a kid driving a monster truck from the show. The kids insurance was only going to give them like $1500 to fix it. They got into a battle, Hagerty told them to take it where they wanted, get the entire car repainted to THEIR satisfaction and have the shop send them the invoice and that they would handle Allstate. They never heard anything else about the dispute other than the Hagerty Claims Agent told them that the lawyers had taken care of it.

That is reason enough for me.

More kudos for Haggerty.

I just called to update my value. I paid $11,000 a year ago and at that time insured if for $13,000. I told them I wanted to raise it to $25,000. Based on full suspension and brake replacement over the past year, recent sales, Barrett Jackson auction and NADA avg between $18,000-35,000. They said no problem, done deal. It was a 10 minute phone conversation.

Will keep an eye on the values and will review regulary moving forward I think as Jason suggested.
