I am selling my 1968 Ford Mustang GT California Special. This car is one of 4,118 made. It is an Arizona car, had been in Arizona up until late 2018 where it was moved to Michigan. The car has the original, numbers matching 302- 4 barrel. The car was once repainted, but needs another one. The paint is flaking. This car has absolutely zero rust. The car is pretty much all original except the paint, but it is the original color. The car runs very good. I ran the VIN on marti report, and it is a true GT/CS as well. All door tags and VIN tags match also. Still carries the original title. I’m asking $22,000 OBO. Please serious inquiries only please. Lost its hood pins, grill, fog lights and front of fender stripes. Probably a front end collision and they used regular parts for the repair.

I thought that early Mustang California Specials had 289 V8 versus 302? I know there was a subtle change over from 280 nice to 302s, but I don’t know exactly when.

All early '68 Mustangs got the 289 if you went with the 2 barrel. 302 for the 4 barrel. Indeed, the 289s were phased out later in the model year. I don't think there was an exact date and it probably varied some depending on the plant.

It is true that some time after the strike that some or all of the 289 engines were built with 302 blocks. They still had 289 crank shafts though.
