HELP,

My repair book is 50 miles away and 2 hrs (seattle) time in traffic. :'(
Question, my dash brake light is on, what is the procedure for fixing this? The rear brakes are doing most of the stopping. I replaced all the brakes, clyinders etc...

I know its the proportioning valve. Do I unhook the sensor from the valve and re-bleed the front brakes?

Whats your experiance say regarding the dash bbrake light? I want to get this 390 car on the road and have fun :)

Missing the smell of rubber, Dan

You may have two problems. Your sensor may be off kilter (non centered) if your brakes are bled properly. Once you are happy your brakes are bled properly if your light is still on first bleed the forward brakes and see if the light goes off, if that doesn't work bleed the rear brakes until the light goes off. In your case I would do the rear brakes first.
The rear brakes working more than the front brakes might be a different item.
Do you have disc or drum fronts? If drum, I would double check that the pads were seated against the drums firmly and then loosened just a touch to allow the wheel to turn freely. I would also double check the rears to make sure they are not too tight as this could cause them to engage first.
Brakes are on of the things you can't take a chance of them not being right.
Good Luck

Thanks for the feed back!

They are disks in front. I bleed the whole system last night. Light is still on. I will try your approach and just bleed the rears and see what happens.

I remember hearing one time that you can unscrew the cap that the wire goes to on the proportioning valve and manually recenter it, anyone else heard this?

thanks again!

Don`t know if this will help but, my dad being a Ford man, always drove straight back in reverse about 30 feet and then stomped on the brakes to reset them somehow. Just a suggestion. :)Rhonda

I had the same problem a couple of times. one time the sensor on top of the distribution block needed reseating and the connecting was a little twisted. the other time I just replaced it with a NOS unit.

You replaced the sensor only or the whole valve assy that all the brake line go into?

I had the car on the road yesterday. First time in a long time. I hit the brakes hard an the front discs are not working lioke they should. I have rebled everything several times.
