1968 Date Codes and VINs

Someone just sent me some photos of a 289 that has a VIN of 163994 but a date code of August 22, 1967.
163xxx seems too late in the run to have such an early engine. What in the world........?
Any thoughts?

My car, c-code, was build in March and came with a 302 bock and 289 heads. I’ve always wondered if it was normal.

Yours is normal for a March and later car.

Replacement block and re-stamp? Not sure why someone would re-stamp a c code with an incorrect date block though.
