Hey Gary I think inspection via pictures would be hard for the forum help you on. We usually like to point out if everything anything looks suspicions or if something looks off or ways someone cut corners.

So our previous recommendation would be to inspect this car (possible with someone who knows CalSpec) top to bottom personally and ask the seller for "Marti" Report (can get immediate to 1-2 days) that will tell you specific details including that this is an actual California Special.

You can also do a search on previous threads on this Forum on what to look for..everyone has their specific places. I have learned quite a bit (as have others) by taking notes and followup question to individual people on the forum.

Couple points...
Check if you have numbers matching car (engine stamp, fender stamp, VIN). On the ledge of the back of the block on the left hand side, just behind the intake manifold. Tranny back of the main case just forward of where the tailhousing bolts on.

Cowls near the engine compartment (hood vents) water test to see if there is rust issues. If water comes on the ground good, if inside interior inspect closer or run. Or other parts for the car like rear quarter panels where problems can arise. Behind the tire and lower corners of doors look for rust bubbles or replacement work. Minor is little work bigger you have more issues.

Under the car to ensure the floor pans are solid. Any rivets or patch work. Suspension and brakes (these are disc) drivetrain to make sure all is smooth.

This looks like a great worn CalSpecial daily driver that someone emptied about 10 bottles of Armor All on. 289 C code (no VIN or info from ad)? It has AC and power brakes which is good. Being dealer owner he knows Calspeci have value but probably doesnt know the history of the car intimately as a private seller.

Good luck...

This car has definitely been dealer prepped.

The engine compartment has gloss black paint on everything (look at the tops of the shocks), and the easy-to-paint parts of the engine have been painted the wrong color.

The trunk seems to be painted with gray primer, probably to cover up dirt and rust, so instead of just cleaning up the trunk the new owner will need to first strip all the gray paint/primer then clean up what's under it. Also in the trunk, the latch has been painted white. That's overspray to the extreme.

Check out the photo of the dome light. The headliner, and probably the entire car, was really, really dirty before the dealer's prep kid took his cleaning rags to it.

I don't want to burst any bubbles but this car is raising red flags in my eyes. Anyone looking to buy it had needs to know how to find the real car under the shiny paint.

Also of note are the foglight pedestals, the tires, the hood hinges, and the missing stripes in front of the front wheels.

With all of that wrong if the Marti report checks out and I see it in person what would be the max one would pay for this car. (heck I may see it and run but if it checks out what would be a ball park figure?)
Thanks for all the help.

Gary

P.S. the original color is lime gold and that is what I had in H.S. so that is what I would like to restore it to someday but for now I would like something I could drive and have fun with maybe do the minium like new steering wheel
spruce up the interior ad the rest of the stripe get the gt wheels, stuff I could still use when I do restore it.

If its structually sound (body panels & undercarriage) and the engine/tranny is reasonably healthy, $12,500. IF you REALLY want it, $14,000 tops. If no deal @ that price, walk away. You would probably end up spending an additional $3,000+/- just doing 'little' things. If the engine is tired, plan on $1,000 for a relatively stock o'haul.
