...at the local airport tonight where we were having an air show planning meeting. The plane is a Lockheed 12. One of only a handful that still exist.

Cars and Planes, I can play.

Very Cool Cougar! My kids and I flew in that same plane in 2004. It was the Bushmaster variant of the Ford Tri-motor. I say "was" because it was destroyed in a crash at Fullerton, CA in September of 2006.

The pilot failed to remove the elevator gust locks during pre-flight inspection and the plane departed without sufficient rudder and elevator control. It went about a half-mile before coming down in a parking lot w/
serious injuries to the two-man crew and two women on the ground. No fatalities...

I remember that crash too.
We have a Cougar club member that was a pilot and crew member of that Tri Motor plane. He opted out of that fatefull flight, being the extra man, he did not want to ride in the back. Lucky him. The pilot and co-pilot were seriously injured and both sustained burns.
Daniel was a lucky guy that day. His family saw the crash on the local news and feared the worst. Fortunately for that family no one was hurt.
