Interesting: One photo shows the A/C registers in the dash, but the engine photo has no AC compressor.

I'll bet it has something to do with the fact that the car originally had a 390 in it. The first big change was to swap it for a 428. Perhaps the original configuration included an a/c. As an experimental mule, they probably did not worry about leaving the a/c registers on the dash.

This car is probably the most unique and awesome Mustang ever produced. The independent rear suspension and early fuel injection were state of the art for this time frame. This Mustang, in a way, was the pinnacle of the 1st generation Mustang line.

2 million!!!! This car will end up selling for far more in the future!! What a cool car and testament to what Ford did in that era. Produce the fastest and best handling cars one could buy.

Too bad this prototype was not produced in limited numbers or at least some of the options added to the list for buyers. Bean counters must have trashed the idea as being to expensive. Another bad day for the bean counters....

With the GTCS failing to meet the planned 5000, and Shelby sales not as high as desired making another variant was not "good business"....

The IRS has been considered on the Mustang earlier, and discarded, as it really did not do much for handling and added cost.

IMO it is an exceptional car and its too bad business got in the way of making something that was quite different for its time...

Here is the build sheet and an original photo of the car before all the "newer" history, color changes etc was created. Dearborn car never assigned a Shelby vin unlike Lil Red

Ford built the car with AC. Too bad the correct original history has been altered. Notice the original early quarter reflectors as a Aug 67 build would have. The car was already privately owned at the time of this photo.

Wonder why with such a rare car that they would not source some old recessed reflectors? Or cut them out and graft them in? Even a hack like me did that for my GNS when I replaced the rear quarter.

Where the heck did you find the build sheet?

Couldn't agree more... IMO, it is the best looking car I've seen along with one of the best color combinations. The only thing they could have done to make the Green Hornet better was making it a manual transmission :teleport:

Car was built Lime Gold. The recreated history is now Highland Green.

Its not Highland Green but a custom dark green/gold metal flake Sonny Fee did back in the day (famous So Cal hot rod painter, was the early days of metalflake back then).

A "secret" formula he never divulged, but did give to the people who restored it back in the early 90s. They replaced the rear 1/4s as at that time the hobby wasn't quite as worked up about concours correct and it was kinda just a "fun old car"... now $1.8 million didn't buy it at BJ a few years ago...

Some info here, caveat emptor as the car is a hotbed for controvery. Some of the Shleby folks loathe it..

Pete Disher is working on replicating the Conelec EFI for the few Shelby's that got it as well as the GH.
