Does anyone have any pictures or diagrams of the Green Hornet's IRS setup? I want to build a replica of the car and would like an authentic setup. I would appreciate any help or pointers anyone can give me.

The article on Green Hornet was in Mustang Monthly November 1994. It does describe the IRS, which was hand made, and it does show some pictures. The person that made it was Martin Euler (517)496-2394. That info is 11 years old, so I dont know if he is still there. The article does show a picture of the IRS and describes it pretty well. Hello,

New to this board as a member, but I believe Craig Jackson, (Barrett-Jackson auction house part owner) has this car in his personal collection. Not sure if the car has the one off rear suspension and experimental Fuel injection system.

Does anyone have this mustang montly article? Can you scan it and post it on the forum? The orginal IRS unit was removed and destroyed before ford auctioned off the Green hornet. Martin Euler did what he could to recostruct the IRS suspension from pictures and diagrams, so I believe it is an interpretation of the orginal, not an authentic replica. I have noticed though that Euler's design did not incorporate a rear sway bar, along with ill placement of the lower control arms and upper control arm mounts. I downloaded the patent ford had in the early sixties on IRS, but those early diagrams are a far cry from the actual design used on the Green Hornet. Does anyone have any other pictures or diagrams from those that have been posted? Perhaps Paul Newitt would be able to help from his extensive research on these cars?

If I remember correctly Paul assisted in the restoration of the Green Hornet. If you run a search on past posts you should be able to find where he talks about it.

The IRS in the photos is a reproduction handmade by Martin. When the car was sold off the Ford Corporate lot in 1973-74 for $3,000, the IRS was missing, as was the fuel injection. Martin made this repro IRS from a drawing that Fred made for him.

You CAN NOT slide out of control with this IRS, at 500hp into a corner (that's why I can't see why SVT can't make one for the new Shelby). Martin punched it many times into a corner, and could not do a power slide with the IRS. He had to use a 351 Clev. driveshaft cut into pieces to make the half-shafts, since the first set broke!!

Martin, with me, contacted Fred Goodell, and guess what? He had the Conelec Fuel Injection in his garage all this time!! So--it went onto the car!

Hmmm...looks like I need to include this story into the new Registry book!

I found this post in an earlier blog about the Hornet...

Thank you for finding that. How far does the IRS subframe extend to the front of the vehicle? I presume it ends at the stop of the rear frame rail? Does the subframe extend to the very rear of the vehicle's frame?

I think I'm going to buy a nice coupe and make a Green Hornet/lil' red clone for my son's dream car. It's a really nice project...and I'd rather have one of these than an ellenor! These protoypes are fewer far between the ellenor craze.

I plan on expanding a lot about the Green Hornet and Lil Red in the new registry.

I need to get a hold of Martin, too. He told me that he used modified '95+ T-Bird IRS parts (arms, rotors, etc.) to make it. The H-frame was hand formed to fit the contour of the underside, and it was "stress-tested" at a local Mich. University.

Fred drew it on a napkin for Martin, and then he made it. THe frame bolts right into the (4) spring perches. it can be placed or removed relatively quickly. Martin has been looking for someone to manufacture his (re)design of Fred's engineering for some time.

It's a trick setup, and I would love one in my 390 CS, too.
