Hood twist locks?

At least not on purpose. I suppose you might find a rare instance of a dealer needing to make a hood swap at the last minute or something like that, but from the factory they were all supposed to have them.

Found one for sale and the seller claims to have the Marti report stating no twist locks. VIN 8R01C154888.

According to Paul Newitt's GT/California Special Recognition Guide & Owner's Manual page 43, "What made this hood unique was the addition of Shelby-type "Quarter-Turn" hood locks made by ACSCO in California (see page 12). This required holes to be cut into the hood after it had been painted at the factory, presumably near the end of the line. Original cars will show a rough cut on the underside with a hole saw, exposing bare metal. (This is helpful in authenticity)."

The Marti report specifically states there are no twist locks? That would be a new one. I haven't seen his reports get into specifics like that. I'd be very curious to see a copy of it.

Boy am I glad I read this one. Thanks to CJ. I was going to clean up the edges of my hood lock holes to make them look better, because they looked like they'd been done with a hole saw. Almost blew that one.

The hoods were painted at the factory, and then they cut the hoods for the hood locks with hole saws and jigs. Obviously, they weren't too concerned about potential rust.

I've NEVER heard of a car without hood locks from the factory. I wonder where Marti gets this kind of info???

I have heard that special days of the week were designated to assemble the GT/CS (HCS) at the San Jose plant. The workers really didn't like doing them, because the Mustangs and Cougars were already too option-heavy, and too many variations in assembly.

Paul.
