Hello everyone out there in gt/cs land. i Just wanted to let you guys know that i had a little trouble getting car insurance for the gt/cs here. number 1 they wanted a apprasial from a expert in the car indusrty and second they wanted a detailed discription from ford about my car.well i got the apprasial and in combiation of the ford and marti report and a little work on the net quaified me for collector status here in b.c . this means that i only pay about $250.00 for the whole year for full coverage.i would also like to point that they took into account that the gt/cs had a lot of things that were offered on the 65-68 shelbys that are ford correct. a little bit of work on the net saved me a lot of money. not a big deal for some i think it is.

collector car insurance here in the states is easy to get. I just told them what I had, vin number and the amount I wanted coverage for. One of my cars I have 45k coverage and it is around $400 a year with zero deductable. sorry to hear it is such a pain up there.

I used State Farm as well since that is what my other cars are covered with. It was extremely easy to do and the cost is hardly nothing!!

For the record, I have my daily driver and my house with State Farm but I switched my collector cars to Haggerty's. When one of mine was rear ended, I had a heck of a time getting State Farm to fix it. They wanted to charge me a $500.00 deductible and charge it against my policy because it was another S.F. customer that hit me and didn't want to take the time to track down the parts. I spent about a month finding the parts myself. I can't say anyone else would have been better, but I felt like if they couldn't make one call and get everything, they weren't interested. Just my .02,fwiw.

I am sure that is a good point Steve. Here was my thought process when getting insurance:

1. We built the car. If it was ever rear ended, hit in the front, etc., we would prob do the work ourselves to fix it. I don't think I would take my car to a body shop to get fixed. We have several folks who helped us that would help again, if needed.

2. I insured the car really for theft. If someone stole the car or if the car was totally destroyed.

I think everyone would approach differently. I think we just have to keep in mind about what we would do ourselves, what we are trying to protect against, etc.

My thoughts.

I just got a quote from Amercian Hobbiest Insurance. 25K, No Ded. $185/yr. I have a buddy who used them for his 66 and they were very easy to work with.

I have all my cars with State Farm. On the CS it cost me $144.00 per year with a $250.00 ded. Car has never been appraised but, we set it up with an agreed upon price. Most everybody else I checked with wanted an appraisal and a lot more money.

Haggarty was very easy to deal with, apply online, answer a few questions over the phone, send in some photos, and bam you have 20k worth of full coverage for a year for about $145 a year.
