Modern tire size and brand?

I have some 1970 dated tires on my CS and want to put some modern ones on it for driving (gonna keep the old ones for shows). It seems most people are using BF Goodrich Radial T/A's with white letters on their cars.

What size is the largest that will work with no rubbing at all? I was guessing 205/70's.

What are you guys using and what size?

Will you be using stock rims or aftermarket wheels?
I liked the look of David Athans car and purchased the same size tires for my car. 245 x 45 front and 275 x 40 rears. I liked the look of the Yokohama's.
If using stock rims, you could check with discount tire online website. Find the tire make/tread pattern you like and then pick a width that has recommended rim width you have. Even with a stock rim I would drop down to a 60's series tire for the street and look for a width of about 215.

looks like discount shows a 205/70/14 as stock size. I assume a 215/70/14 will work as well which they show in stock. the 215/60/14 size in the BF Goodrich Radial T/A looks like a special order.

I don't mind the higher profile since I will not be using this car for performance in any way (that's what the Benz is for).

Forgot to add: I repainted the stock rims the Argent color and located a full set of NOS GT hubcaps. Looks like I am done with the wheels. Need a set of used GT hubcaps? I would rate them a 8 out of 10.

I'm using Goodyear 205/70/14's on GT wheels. What you need to do is find out what the stock tire was for your car (either 6.95 x 14 or F70/14) and get a tire of the proper width for your rim and the same height as stock, or you will have to change your speedometer gear to get the right speed reading. If I remember correctly, the 215/60/14 is the right height in the wider tire.

JB, we just put a set of BF TAs on our car. We also have the GT wheels. We bought 225 by 70s on the back and 215s on the front. Gives a nice look and pretty close to stock.

Here are the original tire diameters according to Coker Tire.

695-14 = 25.3"
735-14 = 26.8"
E70-14 = 25.7"
F70-14 = 26.2"

The Cooper Cobra matches up nice too. See P205/70R14 for the 6.95x14.5

I have Firestone Firehawk P-215 70R 14's on 68 Ford Style Steels. 25 inches in diameter. Great fit and no rubbing and my car is lowered 1 to 2 inches. I have an old friend the runs the local Firestone outlet. I like them much better than radial T/A's. I have 4 vehicles and all roll on Firstone!

I have the Indy 500 Firehawks as well 275/15/60 on the rear and 245 up front.

They are rated way better than the T/As and they look kinda retro as well.
