Two days ago i just purchased a well used 1968 California Special, I think it was lime gold (mostly rusty now, looks like a clunker, but drives ok). Its a 289 c4 car, fairly basic as far as options. Manual brakes, etc. Ive known about this car for 15 or 20 years. I just happened to drive buy it on wed. when the 70+ year old (third owner) had just put it up for sale just two hours before. LOL! I was the 4th caller, first to stop buy. Made a deal on the spot! He is moving out of state back to Wi after 47 years in Mill Valley California, and had to sell it by this saturday (today).

Anyway, wanted to introduce my self. Ive spent time over on FordFE.Com with a 68 Torino (now for sale), and a 66 F100 (410 engine) among others over the years. Im fumbling around this new Forum here, and WOW, it looks like a great resource and comes with high recommendations!

I would like to figure out how to register this car with this forum...?

The cars vin is #8R01C141596. It has 68,800 miles.

Its is a well used enough not cherry specimine, and also is a base model, so i plan to restore it as a stock appearing 390/428 GT 4-speed 9" GT/CS car. OR you could call it an options queen if you will. I hope this change i have planned for it will not offend too many people here, but i will keep the original engine & drive train parts with the car.

Looking forward to meeting new people here and learning about the GT/CS cars.

First off, welcome to the site and congrats on your purchase. Looks like you've got a little bit of work ahead of you. No matter, once your done trust me you'll love the car even more.

To register your car simply click "RIGISTRY" in the upper left hand side then click on "submit your car". That's all there is to it. Since your on the site you can also setup your own gallery along with photo's of your car. To do this simply click on "Gallery" at the top of the current thread and follow the insturction. There are plenty of folks here on the site who can help in one capacity or another. The folks here are great. We have our spats from time to time but, we're all here with a common bond so it works out fine.

Good luck with your project.

Welcome to the site. We'll be happy to help you out, when you need it. Sorry to hear you sold your '68 Fairlane conv. and have to sell your Torino. I've got a '69 Fairlane conv. I'm kinda working on from time to time.

Pippin,
Welcome!!! I am an FE and restomod nut. Steve has more cars than some people have underwear!! Just kidding Steve!!! Now I will be on Steve’s list!!!

Great find!!! My black Fastback is a lime gold car. Not the prettiest color, so it was painted black decades ago…. 1977…..

That said, have a great time optioning it up!! Nothing like a big block in a Mustang! Got to love servicing those spark plugs and exhaust manifold/header bolts…. As a Fairlane owner you know the drill….

Again welcome to the site. I have a 428 Cobra Jet in a 57 2-door wagon. Lots of room!!! I have wrenched many an FE and love to talk them. Scott Main at Cam Research is the godfather in my opinion of FE’s. Ready to bench race any time!!!

You need to see the video of David’s car running 11’s!! Way cool!!

  No, you're not on my list. Besides, Tim has me beat by a mile and all his cars run!

Pippin, if you haven't guessed by now, we have a tendency to drift off topic from time to time. It's all in fun--just part of being in a big, crazy family.

Welcome Pippin,

I am sure you will like the people on this site.
You won't offend anyone on this site by making
mods to your CS, as long as its in good taste.

My CS is going to stay original, but as I always
say, " WHATEVER TURNS YOUR CRANK ".

Hey Pippin!

Welcome--and congrats on getting a GT/CS.

I don't suppose you could find out if the previous owner had any paperwork on the car???

Besides the on-line registration, you should send me your car's info, VIN, door data plate info, and perhaps a copy of the Marti report to me at:

GT/CS Registry
Paul M. Newitt
P.O. Box 2245
Davis, CA 95617

When you get your CS finished, you'll have to bring it to next year's BBQ up in Grass Valley....

Paul,
Where is Grass Valley!

Rob

Whoa-Boy.....I'll let Mike J. and Tim answer THAT one....LOL!!
(It's two state borders below you).

(psst...It's like taking Sequim and putting it in the Sierra Mtn. foothills).
(now people are thinking: "where the heck is Sequim?")
...it's all geographic.

And I guarantee you most people here would never guess how Sequim is pronounced.

It's like saying "Squirm" without the "R". Or, you can say it like "su-quim', depending on where you're from. I'm quite sure it's an American Indian name.

It's up by, and just east of Port Angeles, on the Pennisula. If you stand on the cliffs, looking north, you can see Canada from there. It's beautiful country!! Also next to Port Townsend--known for it's Victorian Homes.

Wait until Robert sees this....

P.

(dang! I just caught myself going "off-topic". <<slapping the hand that uses the mouse>> )

I used to live in Pacific Beach, Washington. (Where John Wayne filmed scenes on the beach for Mr. Q.) I really miss going clam digging out there.
I have lots of relatives out around Port Angeles and all the way down the coast. I love those rain forests and rafting on the rivers. It`s still so pure and clean out there. This is off topic, right? lol

Welcome to the site Pippin. Grass Valley is 45 miles northeast of Sacramento, Ca. off I80. We hold a BBQ every August for GT/CS owners, cars running or not. We have a Concours Restored 390GT/4spd GT/CS, and a C code GT/CS that will have a transplanted 428/4spd. It too was Lime Gold and is now a Metalic Copper. If you need help along the way, ask any question here. You will get several ways to modify your existing car to make it right for the upgrade. Hundreds of years of experience here. Several ways to properly skin a cat so to speak. LOL

Now that you own the car, it is yours. You will find purist here, as well as drag racers. It is your car, and do with it as you see your dream. Welcome to the family. Mike
