Even if it's not what Ford has planned, I sure as heck like it a lot better than the Shelby design. Looks pretty cool. would be nice to see the tail section.

But its a fastback. Is that a two- seater? I don`t like the headlights. Theres no spoiler on back either. Just my two cents worth. I know, I tend to ramble at times. LOL

Rhonda;
Take a deep breath and count to 10. It's just the start of things to come. Everything is subject to change. Besides, think about it, they don't really make a coupe model anymore. Closest thing to the coupe was the late model Fox bodies (Notchback model).

Here's a radical idea. The closest thing to a coupe with the new body style is really the convertible. How about a convertible-only GT/CS? That would seem to represent California in the truest sense.

I saw this picture on a web site a year or so back among many others like it, a Mach and several other artist renditions of what could be. The web site was some artist that just modified the Mustangs artistically in many different ways for a what if concept.

Arlie;
May not be as radical as you think. They may very well offer in both styles. The 05 Convertible is going like hotcakes. I know the local Ford dealers in my area can't keep them in stock.

No matter what they should make the new GT/CS a coupe and stay as close to the original design of the 68 as much as possible, just newer. The original GT/CS`s were only coupes. Why on earth would anyone want them as a convertible or a fastback? Why change the uniqueness of the GT/CS? I suppose it would be cool if the GT/CS came out only in a convertible this time but how many people truly like convertibles? I know alot of people that would never want to own one. I think Ford should get the GT/CS`s owners together to design the new one. Were the real experts on these cars. If I knew how to draw or design something on the computer I would design my ideas and send it straight to Ford and hope that they would take that into consideration. I would like to do that for all the Mustangs they design in the future. I still think they need alot of help. They have gotten better with the 2005`s but there is still room for improvement I feel. I think this site should take a poll on whether the new GT/CS`s should remain a coupe or come out as a fastback and/or a convertible. I don`t remember if we`ve done that yet or not. Anyhoo, I`m just rambling again. I am taking a deep breath and counting to 10 now. :-\ Rhonda

Rhonda;
I as well as many others on the site totally agree with you but, you've got to remember - they are not marketing to just a few owners of the originals. Their concern is appealing to the mass'. I'm sure what we have seen thus far is just an artist's rendering of the car and Ford may have a totally different approach to it. If they are smart I would hope Ford takes a lot of opinions into consideration when doing the final design on the car. Either way, the cars evolution should be interesting to say the least.

I totally agree with Rhonda in that making a GT/CS out of a fastback is just short of blasphemous but since the new Mustang doesn't come in a coupe configuration, and I don't see Ford spending the millions it would take to make a coupe, we're stuck with a fastback and a convertible. At least the convertible sort of looks like a coupe with the top up, hence my convertible-only idea.

Maybe one of our meeting sites should be wherever and whenever Ford rolls out the new GT/CS. We could have a bunch of the originals all lined up behind the new one.

Jason can invite the Hooters girs and Don can provide their clothes. ;D

Hey, Jason, how are you progressing with the Hooters corporate sponorship of this site? ;) All we need now is a beer sponsor. Ok, Mark, time to drive down the mountain to Golden and visit Pete and the family.

Arlie, I love the idea of originals meeting if/when FORD rolls out the GT/CS. The press would be all over this! FORD should pay us to come. Detroit, California - wherever, I would get my car there, even if I had to ship it. I can see the commercial now: 05 mustang does steve mcqueen in a corn field. 08 GT/CS commercial does Paul at the Golden Gate bridge. ;D

Paul, do you have FORD contacts to see if they would go for this idea? (not the commercial idea - but, seriously, they get together idea).

Maybe by 2008 they will have a choice of coupe, fastback and convertible and they will have the GT/CS option available for just the coupes just like they did in 68. I think people love the idea of a special edition.
That is a great idea for the old GT/CS`s being there when they introduce the new ones. You can count on me and my GT/CS to be there. Maybe we could find some male models to be there. I`ll provide their wardrobe. How much could 20 loincloths cost? ;D ;)

There are only maybe 3 men in the country who should be allowed to wear Speedos in public and I promise you they aren't any of us. I have no idea who the 3 men are but I'm sure one of the women on this board can tell us.

If creating a coupe configuration may not be appealing to Ford Corprate, how about a GTCS convertible, but with a removable hardtop - cool, huh 8)

You might appeal to the CS traditionalist coupe crowd, and appeal to the masses that want a convertible ;)

Question: If Ford makes a new CS, will this car be eligible to be in the GT/CS Registry? Or will there be a different category for these newer Mustangs? Or maybe an altogether separate and new registry?
What does everyone think??? :)

Interesting question. It also applies to the new Shelbys. Are they going to be included in the SAAC registry?

I guess I'm leaning towards having only the originals in the registry. More than anything else because the new one will probably be a fastback and that just flat out annoys me. I'm accepting it and learning to live with it with help from Von Quack. In fact, most of the twitching has finally gone away, but it still just aint right.

It's kind of like the original Grinch and the new Grinch. A perfect example of how some things just shouldn't be messed with unless the new product is vastly superior to the original. Sort of like remaking classic rock songs. Alabama should have stayed far far away from Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama"

That said; if the new GT/CS is different than the regular Mustang and looks good I could change my vote.........but I'll still be pissed about the Grinch!

Another question along the same lines concerns the HCSs. What will happen to the value of the original HCS vs the GT/CS. If the new GT/CS increases the value of the originals will they leave the HCSs in the dust? The poor, undervalued, misunderstood HCS just can't seem to get a break!
