My Father knows the owner of GPD (Genuine Parts Dist) and has worked out a deal for me to get an engine and some parts from him. Kind of a one shot deal so I wanted to put a parts list together before I called him.

I have my original 289 and 100% of the parts that came with it. I have an edelbrock manifold, a edelbrock 4 bbl carb, a mallary electronic ignition and new valve covers.

Do any of you know if a newer roller 302 motor long block would work for my application? If so any idea what year I should ask about? I'm not looking for monster HP, just a fun reliable drivetrain.
Do any of you know what part # I would need for a stock aluminum water pump?
Part # for a stock four core radiator?
One wire alternator?

Appreciate your time and input

Bill;
I did such a conversion on a '68. The engine will fit exactly as the 289. I also used the Edelbrock intake & 4 barrel. Your other items are all available thru various magazines/catalogs. Just get the P/N's from the ads and have GPD cross reference them to their P/N's (if different). I did have to allow for higher spacing of the valve covers due to the heighth of the roller rockers. This can be done by simply doubling the valve cover gaskets.

You wanna make sure you have the right harmonic balancer and flywheel/flexplate. Also, you want to use the earlier timing cover so you can use a standard rotation water pump.

Joe's absolutely correct. I had acquired my engine thru Ford Motorsports, and they kept me straight on the harmonic balancer & flywheel/flexplate.
