1968 Shelby 10 Spoke Wheels

I am considering getting a set of Shelby 10 spokes for my GTCS that I just got. The GTCS I had back in the early 2000's came with them and I liked them. However, that car was switched over to the Styled Steele Wheels after I sold it. My new GTCS is Sunlit Gold so the gold on the Shelby spokes would kind of match the paint.

My new one has the 14" Styled Steel Wheels and GT caps that are pretty darn pristine with almost new Cooper Cobra tires so I kind of hesitate to spend all that money on a whim.

I have read that some of these 10 spoke wheels have a caliper clearance problem. Looking at a set from Tony Branda that includes the caps and lug nuts for 1,125. Anyone have experience with these?

Not sure if there is a local market for the current wheels to help defray the cost of new wheels and tires.

For those of you who run the 15x7 10 spokes, what size tire are you using?

Any and all thoughts on the 10 spokes are welcome!

Goodyear Blue Streaks on the 10 spokes would look unreal on that car. Who cares what it costs

I would probably go with period correct looking radial tires from Coker.

I've only, personally, installed the 15" 10 spoke wheels on one of my GT/CS's, which had drum brakes. IIRC, the '68 Shelby cars with PDB have identical spindles & calipers as the GT/CS cars, so I believe they will mount with no problem. I used BF Goodrich 15X70X205 tires and had no clearance problems.

Only the original 67 Shelby ten spoke wheels had clearance problems with clearance the calipers.
That is why 68 Shelby's were sold with hubcaps. The aftermarket ten spoke wheels are made with the correct back set to clear the calipers.

Weren't the '67 calipers the small 4 piston type, and the '68's changed to the larger single piston caliper?

Dad, you are right on! The 67 Kelsey Hays 4 piston caliper was the last year on a Mustang.

Yes that is correct and the reason the original Shelby ten spokes would not work with out a spacer.

That seems like a very good price. The question is, are these true Shelby ten-spoke reproductions? Obviously, the center caps are not.

I wonder how much I could sell (locally) my five pristine, 14" chrome styled steel wheels with new GT caps and almost new Cooper Cobra tires for?????

BFG currently has serious problem with their Radial TAs in that the letters quickly turn brown and nothing will make them white again, except actually sanding off the brown. I don't know if or how they are addressing the issue.

What size tires did your car originally come with?
Here is a rough size chart for old tires.
6.95-14 = 26.0"
E70-14 = 25.75"
F70-14 = 26.25"

Not sure why you think the tires would be too big. Height? Width? Circumference? Or, just appearance?

I looked up a size comparison chart for the tires that Sheryl is considering.
The 15" X 215 X 60SR diameter is 25.2" compared to the F70 X 14" 26.25" on Arlie's numbers.
That's about 1" smaller diameter than the F70 X 14".
I believe the new wheels/tires should fit OK.

If you like the 6.95-14 from a ride height view then a 215/65R15 should be a good replacement. You can get a similar combo (to the one discussed in the thread) but with the 215/65R15 size for about the same price (mounting costs additonal)...

As for my car I have 215/70R14 (~25.9") with ~26.5" height from ground to wheel well lip. No rake. I really like the look.
