Tim I can relate to the train track camp site. One time when the kids were small we pulled in to a park after dark, set up the tent. At 2AM a train came through at 60 MPH about 30 yards away. Took a while to get everyone back to sleep.

Man oh man does that ever bring back memories, cut off T's, the 80's were a blast. Never thought I'd live long enough to view them as the good old days. Guess I did.

Tim,

Those are GREAT photos!!! I bet you're having a blast going through all those old pictures! Thank you for posting some of them ;-) Can't wait to see more...

I am sorry to say that we lost quite a few old photos and 8mm movies in a fire when I was a teenager :'-( Wish I had them to go through now like you are.

We've seen cars, trains, and planes, now how about some boats?

Here is the world famous, and undefeated, Wazzu Brew Crew 2 on its test voyage in 1983. Just look at how tall she sits in the water, with her freshly painted concrete glistening in the sun. And look how relieved and stressed the crew members look.

Yes, sad but true, this is what engineering geeks do for fun!

Rob, I bought an Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner, specifically to scan negatives. It does a great job. The only difficult part is trying to figure out which way is up, and I usually get it wrong, but that's an easy fix with PhotoShop.

...Read the sequential numbers on the negs Arlie. If they're right - you're right...

Here's some more that would explain why I'm partially deaf (aside from age) these days. While some of you stood alongside drag strips - I opted for airport runways. 'Same thrill of 2000 to 4000 un-corked horsepower depending on the "bird"...

Tim,
Of course I love the Lightning and the Mustang!! Is that an old Avenger torpedo plane? The flying coffin? A distant cousin?

Yes Rob. Grass Valley was home to scores of TBM-3 Avengers that were flown in from NAS Litchfield Park (in WWII Navy colors) and converted for use as flying dump trucks to contract w/ U.S. Forest Service.

"Flying coffin" was correct!.... causing California to ban their use by 1974 due to crashes...

...Here's a few of the (Mustang) plane crashes we surveyed at Reno over the years. No fatalities in these ones...
