Ever have one of those "That doesn't look right", feelings?
I was just out doing one of my power walks, and I passed a teenaged girl going the other way. Not 30 seconds later this car with a single guy slows down and angles towards the curb.
My mental radar was pinging like crazy.
I turned around to verify that he was slowing for this girl.
Her posture told me that she did not know this creep. I start walking towards her, and she is kind of looking for an out from the situation. She can tell that I am trying to get a read on the guy in the car and starts walking towards me.
The creep who looked about 30 pulls, away and turns around, drops back a block and turns down a side street.
About this time I meet up with her and ask her if she knew the driver of the car.
She did not, she said that he wanted to give her a ride. She asked me if I had a cell phone. I do, I said. Do you want to call someone or do you want me to walk with you to the corner? She said if I could just walk with her just two blocks to the light. About this time we get to the street where the guy in the car turned. He had gone down a half block, turned around and parked watching. He sees us together looking at him and takes off. We could not see the license plate from our vantage point.
And with perfect timing, a friend of mine calls me on the cell phone and asks what I am doing. "I am walking with a young woman, who just had a creep try to pull her into his car." Talk about a tension breaker, this young girl sighed a breath of relief.
I advised her to tell her parents, and complemented her on doing the right thing where strangers are concerned.
Sure glad that I was there for her.
