Has anyone thought about using the new Borgeson gear box? It's in the latest Mustang Monthly. Looks like it would be a lot more mechanic friendly as far as dealing with leaks. I'm just not sure if the price is really worth it. I haven't ever dealt with a leaky system. I've purchased everything to go to an original p/s system, but this is sure enticing. Only 2 hoses to worry about instead of 4 and it's all easy to access under the hood and keep the original manual steering. I know the concourse guys won't consider it, but if your not, what's your opinions?

If I were upgrading a generic Mustang, I would consider the Borgeson system (don't they recommend a 16:1 ratio box?). But due to the relative rarity of a C/S Mustang I would opt for the '68 Ford P/S system for the sake of originality.
I've added various options to my C/S - but only period/year correct.

This thing is sweet!

It's a lot longer than a normal Mustang steering box so the column needs to be collapsed. Hitting it with that first hammer blow was a little unnerving but it collapsed easily. Just a little tap with a rubber hammer is all it took.

Of course installing it with the engine out is a luxury most people won't have, but even with the engine in the car it shouldn't be too difficult.

My next "back to the orginal" is a Borgeson for Val's car!!! Got headers, get Borgeson!!! Takes the pressure off the frame rail and no more ram and hoses. Put one on a 1967 Fairlane. Easy as pie!!

!!!ATTENTION!!!

A Borgeson steering box CANNOT be used on a 1968 Mustang with a manual transmission with a Z-bar, but it will work with a cable or hydraulic clutch.

They are working on a modified Z-bar but they don't know when it will be available, so off it comes, and the old box goes back on.

That seems like a question they should ask you before they sell you one.

Is that Borgeson system adjustable?

I do not like the feel of one finger steering, like on the OEM power steering and the aftermarket power rack and pinion steering conversions.

I don't think it's adjustable but the level of assist is supposedly much less than the old Ford system.

Arlie,
Just put a hydraulic clutch on Val's car. It is the shit!! See part of it on the photo your winter fun thread. Want a cable set up? I got one for free to you!!! But you will need a couple other items to make it work.

Thanks Rob, but I've already installed the roller system, the Ford steering box is back on the car, and the Borgeson system is boxed up and will soon be going to a new home .
