1966-67 HCS 66 High Country Special

I'm certain it is/was a special paint car. But of course the tag would not tell us the color (and neither could the Marti) but the order number (from the top left hand corner of the form. But if it was a High Country Special the DSO would match some of the others (since I understand they were...

1966-67 HCS 66 High Country Special

While at a yard yesterday (taking pictures and finding a few hidden jems) I ran across a 66 San Jose built coupe that appears to have been a special order paint car (though it was repainted a dark blue at one point - over the original color). Since the door tag and fenders were missing I can't...

    1968 Missing VIN

IMHO there is no reason to purchase a car like this and to possibly deal with the related issues. If you already owned it, then its a different matter. Plenty of other cars and options. I would check other options since the dash tag is the legal identification used for registration.

    1968 Removing Locking Lug Nuts

I've found a deep socket in my tool box that is just a little smaller and hammered it over just enough to grab than twisted the lug nut off. Worked for me

    1968 Hood Inserts

Someone (read PO - previous owner) chromed them. It wasn't an original option. Kind of like doing the headlight rings or on non- Calif Specials the rear fender extensions. Saw one owner once that chromed their front valance

1968 Help removing strut rod bushing

You need to take a chisel and hammer and take/bend the lip of the tube that connects the outer washers together. Once one end of the tube is bent (the lip of the tube) the assembly will come apart

    Correct decal placement

Does this help? The filter replacement decal would originally have a part number for the filter on the bottom left edge (from an early 68 San Jose car)

    1968 Engine decals for 200 cylinder 68'

IMHO do not use a catalog to figure out what your missing and where they go (you'll likely end up with some that are not original - like the CAUTION one ;) Since this is the Calif Spec site so I guess your car was built at San Jose in the spring. DO you happen to know what month? Will this we...

    Recoating the Taillight Buckets

The tin foil trick is something that was common on the cars from the 30-40's (with 6 volt systems) Think you'll get slightly better results with recoating the housing ;)

    Recoating the Taillight Buckets

As a follow up I though this might be helpful though it does contain some 69 details that should be ignored by owners of 68 Cal Specials ;) So please excuse the black on the taillight panel and the taillight frames __________________________________________________ Working this week getting...

1968 9-inch Rear End on Mustang GT

Scott The Marti's I have with this application show a T code C4 with 2.83 gears. No way of telling if this was a typical/standard order or not. Also have X codes with the listing 68 X code with automatic and GT package -"5 3.00 Standard axle ratio" and others with 68 X code with...

    Recoating the Taillight Buckets

Thought I would offer this short post. I refinished the surface of the taillight buckets (silver shinny surfaces) the other day and was very happy with the results. Though it is a 69 Shelby taillight panel the practices would be the same/ 1- Taillight panel was repaired as needed and primed...

    1968 Emission Decal for 302-4V

Getting a little off thread - but just this once ;) Guessing we have a car around 8R01C158xxx Looking at the pictures I have it appears, IMHO, that the 289 air cleaner decals had "black & orange" checkers or "flags Hope this helps

    1968 Emission Decal for 302-4V

Sorry Scott for not being clear. I can not find a picture of an original J code built at San Jose that has a "302 4V Premium Fuel" decal All of them I found (original San Jose 68 J codes) have/had the "302 Cubic Inches" decal on the air cleaner lid

    1968 vacuum check valve location

John there was a two to one check valve installed on AC with tilt Mustangs but that was in 69. Not sure (would have to look) if they were joined (both canisters vacuum into one) in the same way in 68 Green arrow indicates the valve on that 69 GT350 I'm helping with. Joins the two canisters to...

    1968 Emission Decal for 302-4V

Scott - based on what I'm seeing of pictures of early to late J code San Jose built cars I can't see a "change over point". I can't find one with anything different than what is shown in the picture. Will double check and report if I find one of the "others" ;) but don't think I missed any...
