1968 Just recieved my Marti report

Many CS's got the trunk spare tire sticker on the left inner side of the rear 1/4 panel. Only Federal complinace sticker on flat of lid as you open it, oftern on the flat area to the left of the trunk catch bracket...

1968 Are these the correct side markers?

Well, they are correct for late build '68's. Believe the changeover date was in early '68, not sure of exact timeframe. Early '68's had the two piece reflector that fit in an indentation in the rear 1/4 and larger rectangular bezel... these are the late surface mounted style.

    1968 68 Headrests - where from?

Why? They sure look right to me. Same pattern as '68, but with the single posts...???

    1968 68 Headrests - where from?

Yep, have a pair of '69's and about 3 pairs of 68's, thus the desire to figure out a conversion as the 69's are not too readily available in Oz. The pair I have owe me $700, as shells, $400 to buy complete with bad foam and ripped upholstery, $300 to ship interstate... about average for here...

    1968 It's saved....

Yes, about as plain as one can get. Late style '68 (as all were), Lime Gold/Ivy Gold, disc brakes, power steering, AM radio, black accent stripe, 2.75 rear, C6, F70x14's w/white sidewall and deluxe wheel covers. Didn't get it for the nice price you noted, but a reasonable value for what it is...

    1968 It's saved....

The '68 S code convertible was a 7 year nuts-and-bolts resto. it drives on nice weekends, many of my friends think I'm crazy to drive it, let alone park it and walk away! The Cal Speical is a regualr drive, fun C code. Once the S GT coupe is done, been 4 years in the making and will likely be...

Thanks for posting that!!! Interesting video, will keep it in mind once the X code coupe I bought today arrives (probably two months from now) and the transformation begins...

    1968 68 Headrests - where from?

I'm actually looking into modifying the '68 seat back to mount the '69 headrest. Parts won't be here for a week or two, but if I get something sorted I'll post details here. Hoping it shouldn't be too hard to mount a plate to bolt the '69 headrest to the '68 frame, they are very similar and...

    1968 On the Verge of a '68 GT/CS, Might be a HCS

As for price, without pics hard to say. I was looking about a bit late last year and saw a few (4 or 5) very nice small block "driver" Cal Specials in the 12-18k range. All looked like very solid cars, granted it was pics only, but unless its a big block they don't seem to bring much more than...

1968 Hood bumpers: which are the right ones?

Most I've seen are like the first set, no dimple in the top, at least on the 67's and 68's I've owned. Maybe the C5ZZ were an early option that chnged out sometime during the '65 prodcution run... But the FAM's call out a C4ZB part.... but a different one for 67-68 to earlier years..

    1968 Side scoop screws?

Shelby's used a 53039-S2, Tapping Screw, Oval Trim Head, Phillips, Type A (coarser thread than AB), #10-12, 5/16" (.308/.332")OD, 3/4"L. Phosphate and Oil finish. One could assume the same for rhe CS as the scoop its pretty much the same part, but that is a semi-educated guess. AMK part...

1968 Not specifically CS related... X codes...

Ford '68 brochure says GT "can be added to any Mustang, provided it's equipped with a V-8 engine (except 289)" quite odd... but most references expand this to exclude the C code. As, I think, the X code was a late addition to the options (as I have heard it came out at about the same time as...

... anyone know if they came with a 9" rear, or an 8"?

1968 Plans for drivetrain and parts list...

Agree on the rings, as you're tearing it down that far to pull the reciprocating assembly and check/hone the bores and replace the rings is not much more work. Could also do the mains and finish it all on one go, not a lot of work in pulling the crank and pistons... that's about all you need...

    1968 It's saved....

Hmmm..... to each their own but I'm sticking with a GH over a (IMHO, no offense intended) pretty funky P51 look... Gets points for creativity, but not a direction I'd be inclined to go! To me this just looks too nice to pass up... but to each their own.

    1968 It's saved....

I don't "worry" about any of them... drive the S code convertible to the grocery store, hardware store, or wherever I go on nice days (it doesn't go out in the rain!) ... park it and walk away... that's why the wheels are round and I have insurance! Will do the same with the S GT coupe as soon...

    1968 It's saved....

Posted a while ago about a CS I picked up last Sept, planning a EXP500 replica... Have now decided to keep the CS as-is, and just spruce it up a bit as in driving the somewhat faded semi-survivor C code I've found it quite fun... even with a somewhat tired engine, 2 bbl and drums... :lipsseal...
