1968 Carb swap from Holley back to correct 2100

No. Edelbrock Performer 4BBL intake w/Edelbrock 600CFM carb. That's what I figured, you've missed the point of my post. I'm asking about going from a replacement 2 barrel Holley, back to the correct 2 barrel Autolite 2100 on a C code... really not interested in swapping intakes... have two...

1968 Carb swap from Holley back to correct 2100

2100 " 1968 289 (C8ZF-G) does have several engineering problems which we do correct (hesitation, flat spots and surging on acceleration)." This is the carb used on most Cal Specials, as far as my research could tell... 4100 "There are several subtle engineering changes that we do to this...

1968 Carb swap from Holley back to correct 2100

Pros/Cons? Car runs fine with the Holley, but have a correct -G and am considering swapping it out... Have heard the -G had some faults, but that's from Pony carbs and according to them no one ever made a good running carb!

Shelby on Ebay... 428 w/C6, tach called out as an option. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Mustang-COBRA-JET-1968-SHELBY-GT500KR-AUTO-AIR-LION-AWARD-WINNER-/200569719802?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2eb2e30bfa

1968 What do you like the most about the 1968 Mustang?

Didn't say I did not like them, just a preference... displaced yank here in Oz and have actually been looking for an XB project but they are stupidly expensive. And are you talking sedan or hardtop, two different versions of the "XB GT"? :-) To the question; yes, given the choice of an XB or...

1968 What do you like the most about the 1968 Mustang?

That I own 3! Coupe and convertible, best lines of a Mustang....ever... For a fastback gotta admit I'd go 65-66, just a tighter, sportier look than the slide into the bloated early 70's slopebacks... JMHO

1968 Original "X" code california special w/ Tach?

One common confusion on the S codes is the "390GT" engine used in '67 and '68 Mustangs (S changed to the 390IP in '69). Many see this name and assume it means the car got the GT option as well, not true. S = 390, but it did not = "GT"....

1968 Original "X" code california special w/ Tach?

Nope. Drums were available on big blocks. My '68 S convertible was a Basic Off Standard Order, Ford line filler, and had front drums. I've heard many who bought them to drag race didn't want the extra weight of discs... I think the GT package in 67 and 69 included power discs, but they were...

Most window stickers and Marti's I have seen just call out "Tachometer", never seen a reference to 6k or 8k on either...

    . Tachometers

A subject of continual debate, but as it was raised in the X code thread thought I'd start a new one... From what I've seen/heard the 6k was '67, or used on '68 6 bangers. Some Ford docs show the 6k on the 6 as an option, others note tach avalable on 8 cyl only. So even Ford is confused on...

Trunk lid to rear 1/4 extensions

Had a strip of almost identical foam in the garage. The "originals" appear to have been ripped from a roll, ragged ends, not sure how Ford did it, but a bit rough.

    1968 Hood pin cutouts

Damn.... all the women didn't come with mine... but they'd be 40 years older now... maybe that's a good thing! Here are some shots of the pins on mine. As tha screw spacing seems unven I'm guessing a PO drilled them to hold.

1968 Original "X" code california special w/ Tach?

I'd think if a pattern int eh Marti's could be shown that all known original '68 4 speed S codes had an 8k tach, nad none of the Marti's showed this as an option then its pretty clear this is the case. The fact that many S code C6's how the tach as an option aslo supports this theory. Would...

Trunk lid to rear 1/4 extensions

Pretty good guess! 5" long, 3/4" wide, 1/8" thick. As it is 40+ years old I'd say 3/16" original uncompressed is still a good bet. Typical gray, one side sticky, medium density foam tape.

1968 Original "X" code california special w/ Tach?

Poked around a bit and found this on the S code forum site. Looks like it may be S code only. "All S-Code Mustangs that were built with 4 speed transmissions included the tachometer as standard equipment. It would therefore not be listed as an option on these cars on the Marti reports listed...

1968 Original "X" code california special w/ Tach?

My documentation is just my experience. The Marti of the S C6 coupe, tach as an option, and my S 4 speed GT coupe, tach not listed and it has an 8k. I have seen numerous 4 speeds with tachs, but not their Marti's. I have also seen numerous C6 cars with the tach option called out on either a...

1968 Original "X" code california special w/ Tach?

I believe all the '68 4 speed's came with a tach, but am not 100% sure. Know mine is OEM and not called out on the Marti. As the S C6 GT does not have it, and my 4 speed GT does, it doesn't prove if it was for all 4 speeds or just 4 speed GT's... any '68 4 speed non-GT owners out there with a...

1968 Original "X" code california special w/ Tach?

As the S code noted is a C6, the tach was an option. 4 speed cars got the tach as standard equipment, not called out on the Marti for my '68 S GT coupe w/toploader. So the numbers noted are not total number of cars with tach, just ones where people special ordered the tach as an add-on.
