    1968 302 Engine - Later Casting

Do not believe there is any way to ID a cam without looking at it... guess you could roatate by hand and measure lift and duration, but not sure if that would be practical... fire it up and run it...

    1968 Correct carb

See references to a -L and a -G for an Imco engine. What is the difference... which would be correct for an April 30th build date...

1968 Taking apart my car, need some Help please!

Those pedal screws do stay put! I ended up using a pair of vise grips to get my two off... no way I could get enough torque with a screwdriver... they were really, really, really, really hard to get out....

    1968 Hi Guys New Here

Welcome fellow new owner! On the OEM finishes for the Phosphate and Oil items (hinges, latch, hood springs, etc), shop around your area to see who may provide the OEM finish, its not a hard process and usually pretty cheap from what I see (its a bit pricey here in Oz). If you have access to a...

    1968 Removing Lucas Lights

Hmmm per this site info: Rather than mounting to the grille, they sat atop tubular stands which were bolted to the wide grille trim. These stands or posts were painted the same argent color as the trim to help them disappear and again give that floating appearance to the lights. I have seen...

    1968 New owner, spare wires...

So some repros have extra wires? I've replaced a few, on my current and past 68's, and do not recall this issue...

    1968 Removing Lucas Lights

Want to spruce up the grille area on the CS. It appears you need to drop the lower valence to remove the Lucas lights? Want to respray the grille inserts and light bases Argent and polish up the housings.

    1968 New owner, spare wires...

Just bought what appears to be a pretty original 100k survivor Cal Special. Signs of a respray or touch up, and maybe a replaced headlight bucket, but most of the rest looks pretty correct to the hobbyists eye. Even has the factory pressed paper heater plenum in really good condition. I did...

1968 Taking apart my car, need some Help please!

I would avoid the POR-15 for the engine bay. Seen it flake off in big chunks and removing it form areas its stuck to is hard, an odd dichotomy. I've used it on brake drums, exhaust and a few other places, but would stick to more traditional paints for the entire engine bay. Just one opinon...

1968 Taking apart my car, need some Help please!

    1) what is the best way to get the steering wheel off? i have the big nut off, but the steering wheel won't budge! Buy a steering wheel puller. Pretty cheap and the right tool really helps for this job. Alternatively, some penetrating oil, time and one person pulling on the wheel and one...

Just verified original block.... now reconsidering the replica as the more I look at it the more I feel a bit bad about transforming it!

    1968 New owner of a GT/CS

Yep, have two FE's and am well aware of the reinforcement, definately on the list, but thanks for pointing it out! I'll be driving it around for at least a few months before any decisions, its a good little driver, and as it will be registered in a week or so, why not!! The all wheel...

    1968 New owner of a GT/CS

Thanks for the reply. Is the VIN boss on the vertical or horizontal, I poked about back there with a mirror and didn't see a boss similar to the FE, assuming it would be a raised flat spot? And the grille trims are not the standard Argent, but darker on the CS? Per this site: "These stands or...

    1968 New owner of a GT/CS

Picked it up today. Seller swapped out the Autolite and scavenged a few spares that were in the car, "take it or leave it"... so took it... Still has paint daubs on the front springs, engine rebuilt with Holley instead of Autolite 2100 but other than that looking to be a very tidy survivor...

1968 What color is the underside of your GT/CS?

San Jose in '68 was generally red oxide. Dealer prep in rust areas was often full black undercoat. So both can be "correct" depending on if you mean factory or as delivered to the customer...

    1968 New owner of a GT/CS

Yep, works out to about 20k US... I saw some "cheaper" in the US but with shipping (3k minimum from Cal), insurance, tax, duty, fees, etc it was a push. A bit more, but being able to see it in person was worth a grand... And it was for sale for ages, I had seen it months ago and was not in buy...
