Yes there were GT High Country Specials in '68. We show 6 HCS GTs (4 R-codes, and 2 J-codes) in the registry but there are more than that because all 9 R-codes should be GTs. But this car is not a GT, someone probably just liked the looks of the GT caps.

This car had a dealer paint job in 2018. Take a look at engine bay photos, there is read paint everywhere. Attached is a PDF of the original ad from 2018, before the repaint.
