Could a combination of a weak coil and low voltage going to it generate such low output from the coil that it won't fire the plugs?

Here's another interesting head issue. Both heads have the same numbers and even the same dates on them but the driver's-side head has the lower casting blown out between cylinders 5 and 6. I can't see how not having that surface can hurt anything but it sure seems a little strange.
