    Engine Repair Question

Tried that too. It made the noise before I worked on it and I recently removed all the belts and ran the engine to make sure an accessory was not the issue. Since the noise is louder now it makes me think that the new, tighter timing chain is directly or indirectly the culprit. It must be...

HVBoM Report from the Ford parts dept.

Do any of the lines list the car as a GT/CS?

    Engine Repair Question

Yep, checked that. Also removed all the belts to make sure no accessories were turning. There is no doubt that the noise is inside the motor, and I'm pretty sure it's towards the front. Crank, cam, or timing chain. Is it possible for the timing chain or one of the sprockets to rub on the...

    My guess is that it's a typo. Jason's post says 155. 115 / 155 they're sort of the same.

Scott, please accept my apology for the rude response to your question. It was quite uncalled-for.

    68 C/s

From Jason's post: I am going to post to this thread info taken from Elite reports about engine size in the number of CS's. The data shows 4118 California Specials which means the HCS cars are included in these numbers. Here is what I have found so far from the Elite Marti reports: 428 4bbl...

Here you go. A picture of an incorrect battery with all sorts of splices and other stuff going on.

    Most Elusive Mustang Part?

I didn't say I did it. I said that is what I have. It came that way from the old lady I bought the car from. I bought a new correct battery for it but toasted it by leaving an upper console light on. Put this one back in until I get the other one returned. Is that Okay or should I not worry...

    Most Elusive Mustang Part?

Mine has a 27 in it. It works but it's not pretty. It extends past the raised rear lip of the battery tray and there is no way to clamp it down since the center of the battery is too far rearward.

    Engine Repair Question

Ah, yes, tearing down the front of the motor again. I just replaced the timing sprockets and chain, the fuel pump, oil pump, water pump, distributor, lifters, pushrods, transmission filter, all the hoses and belts, and cleaned and painted everything. Used a case of paper towels, a gallon of...

    Engine Repair Question

Thanks for all the comments and advice. The shop I took it to is considered one of the best in town. It's where people go who want engines David and Joe can appreciate. This shop is used to big invoices and big profits. I really wanted them to diagnose it more than actually fix it, anyway...

    Engine Repair Question

Steve, I recently had the pan off to replace the oil pump (no problem with it, just a precaution) and I was pleasantly surprised at how clean the bottom of the pan was. I didn't filter the oil though.

Yep, pretty high-tech for back then. Radial tires were also an option. Here is a page from the dealer brochure that shows the cruise control option.

    Engine Repair Question

Took my car to a local mechanic shop today to see if they could diagnose the rolling noise in the engine. One of the techs said that the noise is probably coming from a piston with collapsed skirts and what sounds like a rolling noise is actually the skirts contacting the cylinders as the...

    Tail light bezels

According to www.thecoralsnake.com '68 Shelbys did not have black on the chrome tail light doors. If that is true then there is no difference between the Shelby and GT/CS tail lights and trim. gt/cs weight

Bill and I are working on his disassembled car tomorrow. We should be able to weigh his decklid. Maybe a trip to UPS to get a shipping quote.

    Rarest CS Specific Part?

The issue may not be weight but it may be moment arm, or weight distribution. Most of the weight on a GT/CS is at the spoiler and that creates the need for a stronger spring.
