1968 Red wire on the solenoid (remains hot)

First, a small correction. The plug with the two wires you're looking at are wires 152 (yellow) and 38A (black). Wire 654 (yellow) actually connects to what eventually becomes 38A in the main engine harness at about the middle of the front crossmember under the radiator. Now to the question...

SOLD 1968 HCS Candyapple Red 200 3 speed

Ford used to provide what was called a 999 report. It was kind of like the basic Marti report. It was free but I've heard that several years ago they started charging for it. I'm not sure if they currently offer it, because I haven't purchased a "new to me" car in many years. You could contact...

    1968 Small coolant recovery tank

Also, check to make sure your thermostat has some way to bleed the air out of the system on a fresh coolant fill. Some thermostats have a small hole with a check ball in the plate, or just an 1/8" or so hole. If not, drill one, so the air won't be trapped when you first fill the system. Air can...

1968 Not holding idle.. help identify this bolt?

The PCV valve (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) goes in the center of the oil filler cap, front of the left side valve cover. It's purpose is to pull gas blow by from the crankcase and route it to the carburetor where it can be burned. Before PCV valves, the oil filter cap had an air filter of...

    1968 Lower Ball Joints

Marty's right. I've found that if the lower ball joint is bad, the eccentric bushing is probably needing replacement as well. The ball joint is riveted to the lower control arm, so quicker and easier to replace the whole thing. Steve

For Sale GTCS on Ebay - Marti says High Country Special

If you read the description, he implies Marti doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground. He also implies it was a rust bucket when he got it, so an inspection would be in order. Steve

    Red Barchetta

This was linked in a Hemmings article about Rush drummer Neil Peart's car collection going to auction. Since we're all "car people" and a lot of us are rock music fans, I thought I'd post it. It's a Road and Track article that was apparently the inspiration for the song...

    1968 A question on original v. restored?

Personal opinion only, a car is a survivor only as long as it has all it's original parts on it. I would say you could replace wear items like light bulbs, brake pads, etc. Once you start replacing wiring, lenses, trim pieces, it's no longer a survivor. MCA probably has a better classification...
