Hi All,

The VIN on the left front fender of our '66 has been painted over, and is almost not readable. I would like to make it more visible.

I can mask it off, and use paint stripper, but I am afraid the stripper will creep under the masking tape, and make a mess.

I would appreciate your thoughts on how to get the VIN more readable.

Thanks, Dave

Sand or grind off the paint, then use the stripper only on the letters to clean out the paint. Then lightly repaint.

Do you know anyone with access to dry ice blasting?

How Dry Ice Blasting Works

Dry ice blasting involves propelling solid CO₂ pellets at high speeds using compressed air. Upon impact, the pellets rapidly sublimate into gas, lifting dirt, grease, oil, adhesives, and even paint from surfaces without water, chemicals, or secondary waste. The process combines kinetic energy, thermal shock, and rapid expansion, which safely dislodges contaminants from delicate or hard-to-reach areas. It is non-abrasive, non-conductive, and safe for metals, plastics, rubber, electronics, and painted surfaces
