BTW ..... Someone correct me PLEASE if my posting the pics of a couple of my own personal rigs violates something. I wouldn't wanna do that. :-J

You can post pics of other cars in the "Off Topic" section, or create a gallery and then let us know so we can check it out. At least that's the way it's intended to be. Just an FYI, "Off Topic" is kind of the rule around here, in that we seldom stick to the issue at hand and have a habit of drifting off. We're just a big family and conversations tend to take off in different directions for no apparent reason. It's one of the things that make this site so fun.

Amy, you don't need to plan this around me. Go ahead and set a time that suits the most and I'll see what I can do. I do have a couple options. I appreciate it tho. I really like get togethers, but being a vampire does have it's disadvantages.

I would love to see a pic of the inside of the trunk and with both the relector jam nuts and the press nuts that hold the "script". I can't make it tomorrow, but hope to get together soon. Your car is very unique. The build date does not relate to the time that the recessed quarters should be on the car. But it substantiates that stuff like this happened. Everytime someone says no, something like this appears. I do not doubt for a second that this car came this way form the factory!!

Hmmmm, maybe we could talk Bill into keeping the car long enough to borrow it for a June road trip to Denver. Bill, Bill, Amy, Rob, Bret, & Steve could get a real convoy going the PNW.
Or, if the Mustang is sold, he could drive the GTX as a chase vehicle (check out his gallery). Although, it would most likely be the lead vehicle with the Mustangs trying to keep up. He and Rob would probably have 12 speeding tickets by the time they hit Spokane & Steve would be bailing them out of jail.

Hey, all you other Seattle area folks, Bill is an amazing guy with some great stories, cars, and garage, so be sure to stop by for a chat. And bring a little cash as a deposit because that Presidential Blue 4-speed GT/CS will tempt you!

You ALL are so awesome. I am not new to typical 'Car Clubbing' or CPI groups. Let me add from experience that from the experience I have had here, you all are very very fortunate. The 'feel' is right both online and last night's visit was just plain exceptional. Ya got something good goin FOR SURE all.

I will warn ya ..... I LOVE to talk ..... I seem to have more stories than the Grimm brothers. LOL

Come on by anytime as I am 'semi-retired' and my time is my time ....... well, when Jeanene doesn't have some honey-do stuff for me. HAHAHA

So..... someone asked for pics of the trunk I added these and if they arent what you wanted, please ask. More to come. I also tried to get a pic of the quarter panel drip trough where there are the original factory stamping numbers. I'll have my mortician buddy come down and shoot a ton o pics that will be a million times better.

I'll have the credit card, a cooler full of beer and the Bar-B-Q ready!

(For the record, in my younger days when I had my '72 Mach 1, I raced a '73 Mach 1 over Snoqualmie Pass at 3:00am at about 130 mph)

Rare Car guy,
I am in Bremerton and would like to see this car or close pics of it. The quarters are from alot earlier car than the build date. But I am one who says who knows what may have happened. My car had the scripts in a higher position than normal like your pictures. I still have the original holes in my quarter panel. Would love to meet with you and talk about this car.

Bill,
Sorry I could not make it yesterday. Please look at this photo carefully. Are your scripts up high on the quarter like my car? They are noticably higher than later GT/CS cars.

NO WAY.....!!!!! That was me....!!!!! LOL..... just kidding ..... but for a visual I shared last night....imagine Jackie Gleason in Smokey & the Bandit ..... slowly strolling up to the car. Leans with both hands on the window opening and he says with a smirk...."__________________" (Fill in the blank ) hahahaha

According to the data plate on the door this is a factory 4-speed car.
Not sure why the Marti says it has a 3-speed.

As well as having early rear reflectors it also has the extremely early tail light panel.

See #7
http://californiaspecial.com/forums/showpost.php?p=62595&postcount=1

Another odd thing about this car is that the Marti report shows it with a 2.79 rear but the door tag shows a 3.50.

So according to the Marti the car was supposed to have a 3-speed transmission and 2.79 gears but it went out the door with a 4-speed and 3.50 gears. And I'm not 100% sure that the 302 isn't original in this C-code car.

Someone had a friend on the assembly line????

Does anyone know why the reflector recesses are oval-shaped? Did very early '68s have such oval recesses?

HAHAHA ..... OK, The good eatin did it for me Rob.... LOL
I am amazed at the things that are 'built in' to this car.

I seriously wonder about the idea that someone had 'friends' in high places or something..... ;-)

I have an interesting question back at everyone. What size are your brakes ? 10" X 2 1/2" or 10" X 2 1/4" and 10" X 1 3/4" ?????

Yet another mystery.

Give me a call Rob.

I will field what I have researched for 1968.

10x2-1/4 inch drums standard on the fronts with small block V-8's.

10x2-1/2 inch drums standard on the fronts with 390 V-8's.

10x1-3/4 inch drums on the rear of all V-8 cars.

I believe that there were 9 inch diameter drums on 6 cylinder Mustangs.
