I will field what I have researched for 1968.

10x2-1/4 inch drums standard on the fronts with small block V-8's.

10x2-1/2 inch drums standard on the fronts with 390 V-8's.

10x1-3/4 inch drums on the rear of all V-8 cars.

I believe that there were 9 inch diameter drums on 6 cylinder Mustangs.

One little twist on that. Power brake cars got a narrower rear shoe. I can't remember the excate size right now. Marty

Another odd thing about this car is that the Marti report shows it with a 2.79 rear but the door tag shows a 3.50.

So according to the Marti the car was supposed to have a 3-speed transmission and 2.79 gears but it went out the door with a 4-speed and 3.50 gears. And I'm not 100% sure that the 302 isn't original in this C-code car.

Someone had a friend on the assembly line????

A quick, easy check would be to see what VIN is stamped on the back of the block, and to a lesser degree, what the tag number on the side of the tranny is.

HAHAHA ..... OK, The good eatin did it for me Rob.... LOL
I am amazed at the things that are 'built in' to this car.

I seriously wonder about the idea that someone had 'friends' in high places or something..... ;-)

I have an interesting question back at everyone. What size are your brakes ? 10" X 2 1/2" or 10" X 2 1/4" and 10" X 1 3/4" ?????

Yet another mystery.

Give me a call Rob.

Bill

Does anyone know why the reflector recesses are oval-shaped? Did very early '68s have such oval recesses?

Arlie,
The oval shape is less likely to "tear" in the stamping process. The reflectors are designed oval on the backside and drop right in. To my knowledge all 1968 early Musatngs with recessed relectors are the same as the one in the pictures. I salvaged my left quarter from a non-GT/CS or HCS car. Same same as the orginal one still on the right side of my car.

The owner now understands that the alterations change the 'value' as it sits. He is what I would call 'a motivated seller' open to offers.

How motivated...? ;-) I'm not as local as the other guys, so I can't drop by to look easily on an afternoon. Perhaps you could send me your photos directly so I can see the car better (they don't open up very large here on the Forum for me). Is he also selling the '68 Corvette?

Thanks.

whats your bottom line on this car? bjd. thanks

bjd,
I don't have a 'bottom line'. I am trying to help a close friend who is disabled. I have been sharing all activity with him in this process. My goal would be to try and get a fair price for the car for him. I know the condition of the car and those that have seen it can speak to its uniqueness. He did lower his price to $18,500. I know he would entertain offers, I should change the post to indicate so.

So..... all that being said, my phone number is posted here, I welcome a call or text or send me an email with an offer.

I'm not really pressing the sale it at the moment as it is in the shop. This owner, being the kind of guy he is, doesn't want to sell something with anything that he knows needs to be done to it. After taking it out of storage for so long, the brakes needed adjusting he was told. He had a couple of wheel cylinders that had a 'dampness' ( no dripping ) and the mechanic suggested changing them and the fluid. He wanted it done right in consideration of the quality that it is, so he had the shop replace everything in the brake system. New master cylinder, all new wheel cylinders, new wheel bearings, new shoes and new drums. That's just the kind a guy he is. It MUST be right.

SO ..... this car will be 'well bought' at a fair price. It is listed at $18,500 OBO now. I recommend that you make him a fair offer bjd. Then come and enjoy it as you drive it home. :)

Any questions or help I can be to you or any of this great group, please speak up. I aim to please.

Now if Rob would just buy my Hemi GTX I would keep this CS for myself and enjoy caravaning all over with your awesome group .....!!!!! :icon_lol: LOL

THERE'S the 'throw down' Mr. Rob.... !!!!

What do ya think of THAT idea 'Sir Moses' ?

Thank you for your thanks it's always nice to hear. Going on my 5th year overseas and patriots at home make it a lot easier to do.

Any issues with the car at all really other the the non standard parts?

Looks like a decent car.

I have a 68 GT/CS with a 289 and an auto and it is getting close to being finished. If I could just spend a little more time in the states I would finish the final peices. Haha.

Thanks,

Tell us more about your car. Color, options, Marti report and how you are building it. Thank you for your service! Our son inlaw is in the navy and is deployed for 6 months at a time and that is hard enough for Danae and Trevin. Do you have a family? If so the deserve our thanks as well. Marty

Ruppstang,

It was a 289 auto with manual steering and non power drums in lime gold.

Since I have had it I had it repainted highland green (paint job is decent but not perfect)

I have also changed it to power brakes with discs in the front.

The guy who owned it before me had the motor rebuilt with some upgrades so its quick.

I do have a wife. We got married right before I had to leave. We had the wedding already planned before I got MOB orders again. I am just glad that it didnt disrupt the wedding and the GT/CS got to be there.

I would like to change it over to a 5 speed manual in the future and I need to do a lot of detail work in the interior. I bought the car 7 years ago right before my first overseas tour so it sat for a long time but was well cared for.

Your son in law sounds like a good many Military service can be rough but as long as you have a supportive family it is a lot easier to deal with the stress here.

Thanks,

It sounds like you have a nice car with some great up grades. The 5 spd would be a exellent addition in light of the rising fuel prices and might afford some deeper gears too. Share some pictures when you can. When ever you have some down time this is the place to ask questions, share information and just hang out with a bunch of car nuts. Marty

Ruppstang,

Yea thats my thoughts. I figure a 5 speed and deeper gears will make it a fun car. I posted a picture of it at the wedding in my gallery. It is funny when I found the car in Seattle 7 years ago this is the site that I found out information on the car because I had never seen one.

Rarecarguy,

Sorry if I have high jacked the thread a bit I am still interested in knowing the shape of the car. I have just kinda been keping an eye out as my wife loves my car and would love to own one herself.

Thanks guys

Ready to roll ......

Hello all ...
I have spent the last year + dealing with more surgeries and medical issues.
That being said, you all were absolutely awesome accepting me to your group and showing a sincere interest in the '68 CS/GT I have.

I STILL have it and while doing short little recoveries between procedures, I had the best of friends who has rebuilt several Mustangs from the ground up come over and tinker the items that were needed to complete this beauty.

The result is that I need to re-post the sale of this car.
Help me out with your input and even come see and drive this.

Bill
