When I got home from work this evening- someone had broken into our garage side window, entered the house and stole our flat screen TV. Fortunately nothing else was taken, and no damage done (other than the garage window & frame).
Obviously they were only interested in the TV (even took the remote). The police called back tonite and said they already had a lead. (Thank God for small towns!)
Tomorrow I get to replace the window, and schedule an alarm installation for the house. (And go buy a new TV)
It just pisses me off that there are people like that. Peggy was really shook up. She's a petite little thing, and feels vulnerable. I fluctuate between anger & disappointment. Vent session over.

We're so sorry to hear that Neil! Probably a good thing for the thief that you weren't home. Stay on the cops & push for the maximum conviction! That will help you feel a little better. These economic times bring out the worst in some, but not most people. We're glad that You are okay...

I'm sorry to hear about that Neil. An alarm is a good idea. We've had one installed in our houses for several years. Helps us sleep more soundly at night too. Of course, the AR15, Glock 9mm, and Springfield XD stand ready for anyone challenging the security system. Hope they catch the bums that stole your stuff. Hang in there!

OMG! Neil said the "P" word....mild mannered Mr. Hoppe.......

I sure feel your anger, a similar thing has happened to me too. It is SUCH an invasion of everything you are. Like Tim said...it's really a good thing you weren't home, or Peggy by herself.
I discovered a man who had been living in my vacation place for near 6 months and nobody knew....I had a broken ankle so I hadn't been there in a while because I wasn't able to walk my dogs. I literally walked in on him. Took about two months to catch him in the area and I believe he got two years for it.

Sure glad you both are alright!

Neil,
Sorry for your trouble. If I was closer I would fix your window. With my construction business we deal with these bums all the time. But there is nothing worse than having them in your home. Glad you are Ok. Marty

Neil, I'm so sorry to hear of your break in. It's such a horrible feeling of vulnerability and insecurity knowing a stranger has been in your home like that. Thank goodness you are both ok. Glad to hear you are looking into an alarm system.

Low-tech alarm systems that work well.

I TRIED to talk Peggy into one of those cute puppies- she said an alarm/monitoring system is cheaper. Bummer ;(
Bought a new TV today, alarm company scheduled to come give us an estimate, handy man installing new window unit.
Life goes on.

Wow Neil,

So sorry to read about your break in, and also glad that it was only the TV that got stolen and not something worse!! I am really happy that you and Peggy are okay!!! Keep your eyes out for anything else that may have gone missing that you just haven't noticed yet.

I have heard that those flat screen TV's are a big target for theives since they are so light, easy to cart off, and easy to sell for a quick buck. When I got my new HDTV, we got one of those CRT ones instead of a flat screen. Too darn heavy for anyone to carry off!!

Really sorry to hear that Neil.

The same thing happened to my neighbor recently.... and he's a cop! They popped open a bathroom window, took just the flat panel TV and walked out the front door. Middle of the day. The wife stays home with their small kid. She was out grocery shopping for about an hour. That's when they came in.

Neil, was the TV that was stolen a new purchase for you? It was for my neighbor and his investigation is focused on the employees of the store that he bought it from.
