Seller's Description
1968 Ford Mustang · Coupe · Driven 1,234 miles

For sale a 68 J code 4 speed California Special Mustang . Original Acapulco blue with blue interior car . P/S,drum brakes . Car has the factory 6000 rpm tach cluster and the correct tach under dash wiring and tach under hood wiring .The cluster shows around 56,000 miles which may be original since the car has all its original suspension on it .
It is a rolling chassis at the moment with 3 chrome GT wheels and 2 painted ones . Has had patches put in the floor pans and a pair of 1/4 panels installed . Drivers side trunk drop off and some patching on top of the inner fenders as well as one in the battery tray area .There are a few small rust holes on each rocker panel .I think the car was poorly stored for some of its life .The work already started seems to be done well .The tops of the trunk floors are nice and original . I think other than the quarters the outer sheet metal and fiber glass is all original .Need to be taken down to bare metal and redone completely.

IF it has a Marti Report, it would be an economical challenge at half of the listed price. Not to mention intensive labor. If I was 10 years younger I would offer $5K tops.

It's now on eBay.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/2035807249...AAOSwUkthJr6K&LH_ItemCondition=3000|1000|2500

- VIN - 8R01J152425
- 1 of 4,118 California Special
- Acapulco Blue / Blue Interior
- Well optioned, Including GT Equipment
- J Code (302 4v) 4 Speed Manual Transmission

In 1968 Ford turned to Shelby American to aid in making a new special edition Mustang, the California Special. With the help of Shelby American and the A.O. Smith Plant, Ford began production of the California Special in 1968 at the San Jose Ford Plant. During the five and a half months of production just a mere 4,118 California Specials were built. The California Special option in 1968 cost just over $194 and included a host of fiberglass parts that gave the C/S a Shelby-like more aggressive look. These included a decklid with integrated spoiler, quarter-panel extensions to match, non-functional body-side scoops, a lower back panel, and sequential tail lights to boot. This look gave the C/S a look that was both desirable in 1968 and yet today.

This particular 1968 California Special is a real GT Equipped J Code (302 4V) with a 4 Speed Manual Transmission. Its original color confirmed by the Marti Report is Acapulco Blue with Blue Vinyl Standard Bucket Seats on the interior. Options include: White Paint Stripes, California Special, GT Equipment, Limited Slip Rear Axle, F70x14 Wide Oval White Sidewall Nylon Tires, Console, Power Steering, AM Radio, Tinted Glass, Deluxe Seat Belts, and Tachometer and Trip Odometer. The GT Equipment option for California Specials came on only about 15% of these cars, making this C/S even more special.

The state of this GT C/S today is a rolling chassis that is awaiting to be finished. It retains its original fiberglass, fenders, doors, and hood along with other various parts for the restoration. Some of the metal work has already been started including a pair of quarter panels, repair to the battery tray area, floor pans, and truck drop. The California Special still retains its original factory 6000 rpm tachometer cluster with the correct tachometer under dash wiring and tachometer underhood wiring. The cluster currently shows 56,016 miles which is believed to be original. No engine or transmission is included in this sale.

Included in the sale of the California Special Project is roughly a few thousand dollars in extra parts. These include the Following:
- Newly Recovered Seats
- New Door Panels
- New Gas Cap
- Gas Tank
- Tail Light Lens and Bezels
- California Special Emblems
- New Rolled Exhaust Tips
- PairDoor Handles
- Grill Trim and Moldings
- Rear Bumper
- Bumper Bolt Kits
- Various AMK Bolt Kits
- Weartherstripping
- Dual Exhaust Rear Valance
- Striping Kit
- Door Panels
- Shocks
- Wheel Lip Moldings
- And More (please see photo)

Pretty rare car being a GT 4 speed. If your wallet is project size this is a great finishing point compared to almost any GT/CS entry level project.
