I took a look at this car today and found it to be a in good condition for a car that’s been parked in a barn for 15 years. IMO this would be a good car to restore.

The owner is open to reasonable offers. Mark (the owner's friend who is helping her sell the car) can be reached at 573-286-1697

The Good
- It seems to be quite solid, without any rust in the body or frame. The battery tray is even solid
- The car has the original fog lights (England), grille, hood, scoops, and rear fiberglass, with some damage to the tail light panel and the passenger end cap – both are easily repairable
- All the windows roll freely
- All the smog equipment is present
- All the VINs match, including the engine
- The foam strips are on the decklid

The Bad
- The LF fender may have bondo in it between the wheel opening and the door. The paint is cracked in this area.
- The engine is seized, and the transmission may also be seized. I couldn’t shift the transmission into any gear.
- The interior is in fairly good condition but mice moved a good portion of the headliner insulation to the air cleaner
- There is no trunk lock
- The tail light wiring is spliced for trailer lights
- There is some minor damage to the front of the car. The valance is smashed and both front fenders are buckled a little. The front fender/door gaps are also too tight so the fenders probably need to be moved forward a little.
- The engine and suspension pictures speak for themselves in that everything is covered with surface rust.
- Two of the brake drums are locked
- The gas tank is rusted out but that’s to be expected. Check out the photo of the black goo dripping out of it

Other Information
- There is a beast of a trailer hitch installed to the frame
- The hood pins are in the glove box and are chrome
- There is some sort of emissions reduction control box on the passenger shock tower
- The mirror has 2299 on it. What is with that?

That looks like a 1970's NOX device added during the early smog testing years in California.
It is unusual to see an original Thermactor smog system intact like that.

Thanks for posting Arlie.

Neil you are absolutely right. If they are wanting $15k for this car then my High Country has got to be worth $30k. With a stuck motor and trans I wouldn't pay more than $7,500 for the car. I wonder where they came up with the $15k?

Cheers,

Ron

Can you tell if the engine is destroyed or might it be possible to pull the heads, fill the cylinders with Marvel Mystery Oil, let it set for a day and then try to break it free?

I don't even know for certain that the engine is the problem. I tried turning it over using the fan and it wouldn't budge but the transmission may have been in gear even though the shifter was in neutral, or the water pump may be seized.

Tell the owner to cut the belts and put a 15/16 inch socket on the damper and see if it will move with the rear tires off the ground. This will eliminate the water pump, tensioners/idle pulleys, and the air conditioner pump.

If it is stuck, some ATF down the spark plug holes and a few days of soaking should do the trick.

Car looks like a time capsule to me. A total restoration, but sounds like it is a solid piece.

Although it looks like a doable project, I see $25K t0 $30K expenditure (if you do most of the work yourself) and a LOT (and I mean a LOT) of labor. Also, I'd invest in a good bead blaster and lots of POR15.
How's the belly look? (frame, torque boxes, floorpans)
