1968 Carburetor Question

Which is correct for the 302 J code:
Autolite 4300 or Motorcraft 4300?

The Motorcraft name started appearing later, 1970ish.

I agree with Scott for autolight. To amplify, in my experience the motocraft name was assigned to the over the counter replacement stuff. So if you bought a new carb to replace yours it was a motocraft.

Best to my knowledge. The "Ford" 4 barrel carbs on all the early and mid 1960's were all autolights.

By the way, I have some 4300 cores if anyone wants a free one. You pay shipping. One has a broken carb flange and the other is a good running carb.

Neil, Autolite is the original for our 68 "J" code engines, I think the automatic cars used a carb with the following stamped number on the tag:

C8ZF-D
There were Motorcraft carbs that were used as a replacement for this rather troublesome Autolite unit, and sold through ford Parts and Service. Many cars now use the Motorcraft, in fact I think they are more commonly found than the original Autolite 4300.

Jon at Pony carburetors has a good fix for the autolite 4300. I think it runs just under $300 plus everything is replated to look like new. Marty

-Concours restoration is $449.50

-core is $180 (for most 4300 applications)

Try pricing a correct Boss 351 carb. You'll add $2K to the total. Needless to say, I don't have one yet. :sad:

I really like the Autolite 4100 carburetors. I am running one on my 1968 Cougar.
There is a really good chance that one will find it's way onto my California Special too.
